Tonight In Rock: Thrice, The Books, Real Estate, Freelance Whales

Tonight Irvine-bred heavy rock outfit Thrice will be headlining the Avalon with none other than Boston-based experimental rock act the Dear Hunter. NY's own experimental musical duo the Books (LAist Review) are poised to grace the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever. And, lastly, local indie rockers the Happy Hollows (LAist Review, #2, #3) will be taking on the penultimate night of their month-long residency at Spaceland with New Jersey-based psych-infused indie rockers Real Estate, One Trick Pony and Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview, Review, #2). But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch British indie pop quintet Fanfarlo (LAist Interview). LAist favorites, Queens' own indie pop buzz band Freelance Whales are slated to kick things off. more ›

Tonight In Rock: Puscifer, Deftones, Asher Roth, Cut Chemist

Tonight A Perfect Circle front man Maynard James Keenan will be concluding a two-night stint at Club Nokia in Downtown under the pseudonym Puscifer. The second and final date of Bamboozle Left Festival, which touts a slew of heavy-handed rockers like Deftones, Thrice and Taking Back Sunday, will be taking place at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. And, lastly, Pennsylvania-bred rapper Asher Roth will be headlining the Key Club. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo later on in the evening to catch this week's edition of Part Time Punks, which features LA's legendary turntablist Cut Chemist. more ›

Tonight In Rock: Ozomatli, Dustin Kensrue, Jon Brion, The Duke Spirit

Tonight there is way too much going on in LA. For starters, Latin/hip-hop outfit Ozomatli will be spending their second night at the House of Blues Sunset. The front men of Thrice, Saves the day, Sparta/Sleepercar and Switchfoot will all be playing to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour for an Invisible Children Benefit. Local musician/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Review) is poised to jam with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. LAist's favorite b-boys People Under the Stairs are headlining the El Rey Theatre. Hawthorne-bred rapper Pigeon John will be performing at the Knitting Factory with electronic mastermind Daedelus. And, lastly, Darker My Love and the Soft Pack (formerly known as the Muslims) are slated to headline the Echoplex. But, all things considered, we recommend making a trip out to Eagle Rock. Somehow, someway Fuck Yeah Fest organizer Sean Carlson has arranged for Metallica (LAist Review) to play an acoustic set on the tiny stage at the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock. more ›
