Tonight LA-based Cambodian rock outfit Dengue Fever (LAist Interview, Review) will be performing at the El Rey Theatre, sharing the stage with legendary ska outfit Hepcat and the Lions for KCRW's Haiti Relief Concert. Brooklyn-bred alternative rock sextet They Might Be Giants are poised to take on not one, but two shows at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, Brooklyn-based folk rock troubadour Langhorne Slim (LAist Review, #2) will be gracing McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Mon Mon. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Smell in Downtown to catch Brooklyn's own punk rock trio Vivian Girls. LAist favorites, lo-fi pop act Best Coast are slated to kick things off.

They Might Be Giants @ Royce Hall 11/14/09
Did you know that They Might Be Giants records albums for kids? That are educational? And still rock? If it was inevitable that all the long-standing indie music fans would grow up and have kids, it would follow that all the long-standing indie bands would grow up and have kids, too. And why should either group have to resign themselves to a life of mind-numbing Kidz Bop or Wiggles tunes?
TV Junkie: Letterman & Phoenix & U2; LA Cops on TV ....Again
While we still don't believe that Joaquin Phoenix's schtick on Letterman last night isn't anything other than a stunt, it doesn't mean that show's like "Late Night" need to go along with it. Do the producers of his latest movie, we don't even remember what it's called, think that this has helped them? What's your take - is Phoenix faking or tripping?

Kurt Cobain: About a Son (Excerpt)
I decided this video couldn't wait, so today 9:20 A.M. is the new 4:20 P.M. A tip of the hat to The Documentary Blog for alerting us to the fact that filmmaker A.J. Schnack just posted clips from About A Son, his upcoming documentary about Kurt Cobain. The film features loads of audio clips from interviews with the Nirvana singer conducted by music writer Michael Azerrad, who was Cobain's "authorized biographer." About A Son is...
Colin Meloy of Decemberists' Top 10 CDs of '06
Colin Meloy might look like just another guy in line at Radio Shack, but he knows no fear. After being called out by Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report for utilizing his trademarked Green Screen effect, Meloy upped the ante -- and on December 20th on Comedy Central, we will all benefit from the “Decemberists vs. Stephen Colbert Guitar Solo Challenge.”
They Might Be Playing
LAist has a story to tell, from our electrical well, it's a little message and we're leaving out the whistles and bells.
