Tonight Portland-based indie rock group the Decemberists (LAist Review) will be headlining the Wiltern in support of their latest single series, Always The Bridesmaid. WEAVE will be playing the penultimate night of their month-long residency at the Echo with Highland Park's own Crooked Cowboy & The Freshwater Indians. And the Monolators (LAist Review) will be closing out their residency at the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. But we suggest you catch LAist favorites the Western States Motel (LAist Interview, Review), as it will be their final night co-headlining at Spaceland with Swedish indie rockers Marching Band. Don't miss out!

Tonight hometown hero Beck will be playing his second and final night at the virginal Club Nokia. As Buzzbands blogger Kevin Bronson tweeted early last night, "Club Nokia's *posh* -- nicer even than finding free street parking 5 blocks away." Memphis-based punk rocker Jay Reatard will be opening the show this time around. The crazy garage rock outfit known as King Khan & the BBQ Show will be stopping by the Echo with Seattle's the Dutchess & the Duke. LA locals The Monolators will be continuing their Monday Night Residency at the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. And, lastly, our personal favorites the Western States Motel (LAist Review, Interview) will be doing the same at Spaceland with Swedish indie rockers the Marching Band, who are scheduled to open the month-long residency. We've heard great things about the band, so head on over to Silverlake to catch them!
It's the first Monday of the month and thus we've got a bevy of new Monday Night Residencies. Local indie rockers the Western States Motel will be kicking things off at Spaceland. And WEAVE! will be embarking on their month-long residency at the Echo. Fresh off the heels of a record release party, LA-based the Monolators will grace the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. Delaware-based pop rock maestros the Spinto Band will be performing at the Echoplex with Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit and one of our favorite local bands, Miniature Tigers (LAist Review). Lastly, Vancouver's own Mother Mother will be showcasing their disjointed yet entirely appealing tunes at the Silver Lake Lounge. But the lineup at the El Rey Theatre tonight is downright irresistible. Swedish songstress Lykke Li (LAist Review, #2) will be accompanied by not only SoCal mainstays the Mae Shi (LAist Interview, Review, #2) and Grand Ole Party (LAist Review, #2, #3), but also St. Albans own electro-pop act Friendly Fires (LAist Review).
Tonight LA is bereft of noteworthy shows. Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, an Essex-based collaborative effort between Dan Stephens and David Meads respectively, will be doling out madcaps beats, flows and breaks at the Echo. If you're feeling brazen, then we recommend heading out to Long Beach to catch the Western States Motel at the Prospector. It'll surely be worth the drive. But for those who want to see a great show close to home, we suggest Beach House at Spaceland. The Baltimore-bred duo—who are generally characterized for their drone of hollow lo-fi drums, rich, almost baritone vocals, and jangly organs—will leave you in a wintry, angelic stupor.
Ah, so many shows, so little time. If teleportation was actually feasible, then we'd be all over LA tonight. The hypothetical festivities would somehow encompass NY-based feel-good pop rockers Ra Ra Riot at the Echo, the Watkins Family and their preposterous display of musicianship at Largo at the Coronet, and, of course, the invite-only No Age gig at the stylishly luxurious Opera & Crimson. Alas, the reality of the situation has finally settled in: Not everyone has an invite or teleportation for that matter. So we suggest you start your night off relatively early at Amoeba Records, where English singer-songwriter Pop Levi will be playing a free, short-lived set of songs from 2008's Never Never Love. Then make your way on over to Safari Sam's to celebrate the release of the Western States Motel's much-anticipated EP, Painted Birds Flying In The Orange Mirror Sun. We are aware that it's sponsored by KROQ, yuck! But Radio Free Silver Lake is equally invested in the event and we feel as though that effectively negates the yuck factor.
Last month, local band Radars to the Sky (MySpace) had a month-long residency at The Echo (MySpace).

My intuition is always right, except for when I was sure I would marry Kirk Cameron, but this time I’m predicting Los Angeles’s own The Western States Motel, as Indie Rock’s next darlings…or at least they should be. With beautiful harmonies, both mellow and upbeat songs, cool stage presence, and emo lyrics to boot, I don’t see how they aren’t on the cover of Filter already. They even have shaggy hair and a pretty CD...
