Last week, Superchunk brought out LA’s contingent of old school indie rock fans to celebrate their new full-length, Majesty Shredding. Besides playing new songs, Mac and crew made sure the crowd were satiated with the old stuff, which sounded as fresh and new as if put out today. For those of you who maybe missed Superchunk among the Pavements and Sonic Youths of that decade, do yourself a favor and grab No Pocky for Kitty and Foolish. They're a genre defining band, and the reason why Merge Records is so successful (yeah, that Merge). One of my all time favorites, showing absolutely no sign of slowing down (or pogoing less). The Vaselines (remember "Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam"?) and Telekinesis opened.

Tonight In Rock: The Beach Boys, The Shins, The Vaselines, Indian Jewelry
Tonight legendary Hawthorne-bred surf rockers the Beach Boys will be playing at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown. Glasgow indie pop progenitors the Vaselines are poised to headline the El Rey Theatre. And, lastly, Houston's own experimental noise rockers Indian Jewelry will be performing at the Echo for Part Time Punk's 4-year Anniversary. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hollywood Palladium to catch Portland-based indie rockers the Shins. LAist favorites the Delta Spirit (LAist Interview, Review) are poised to kick things off.
