Tomdog's Top Ten (and then some) Music Picks and Podcast for 2007

After reviewing a few dozen releases this year this is my top ten of reviewed albums plus a few select tracks of items that I went out and hunted down myself. These weren't easy to select out of the great stuff I received so it was a challenge. I'd like to thank the labels and their PR agencies for hunting me down and sending CDs to me. I reviewed everything that I received this year with just a couple of exceptions of items I felt I wasn't qualified to review. [Hint to labels and their agencies: LAist likes getting stuff to review, look for our contact info on the staff page]. In my Top Ten is a band (Tall Pony) that wasn't even signed when I posted the review and I had a few others like that this year but there should haver been more. Also, please note that there are 3 LA bands/groups in my Top Ten (Bitter:Sweet, No Age, The Deadly Syndrome). more ›

"I don't care if Mark Foley had been asking boys to describe their penises because I have some sad news for you: Your kid is so larded out on Cheetos and Yoo-hoo, he can't even see his penis." - Bill Maher, today on Salon.com "You're wankers, but really important wankers. Even you, Robert Joseph at Earthlink, who has sent me consistent hatemail for two years straight. You, sir, have been impressive." - Jessica Coen... more ›

KCRWmusic.com launches (kind of)

KCRWmusic.com launches (kind of)

We were excited to hear that KCRW is taking its music shows online in a brand new 24-hour music website. How smart: KCRW isn't just a station, it's a brand. Take a formerly local radio broadcast and leverage it as a national online brand and soon they'll be raking in even more donations from all over the country, not just Santa Monica and Brentwood and Silverlake. more ›

 Fashion Faux Pas?

Fashion Faux Pas?

This year, the great and noble Mr. Blackwell (as far as we know, he has no proper first name) has decreed that the worst dressed woman from 2004 was none other than the lovely and talented Nicollette Sheridan. LAist treats this announcement with great disdain. Miss Sheridan rarely wears clothing in the first place, so how can she even qualify for such a dubious honor? The same can be said for one Paris Hilton, who frequently flaunts her "ladyflower" at pubic, er, public functions and therefore, by our standards, should not be eligible for this list. more ›
