Tonight Metallica (LAist Review) and the Sword (LAist Review) will be concluding every metal aficionado's wet dream, a two-night stint at the Forum. The LA-based Latin/hip-hop eight-piece known as Ozomatli are slated to headline the House of Blues Sunset. Hello Stranger front woman Juliette Commagere (LAist Review) will be gracing the stage at the Troubadour and will be accompanied by LAist's favorite singer-songwriter Obi Best (LAist Interview, Review, #2). But we strongly suggest that you make it over to Bordello to catch Brooklyn-based buzz band Amazing Baby. It will be the band's first performance in the area, so catch them while they're still fresh!

NY-based bohemian pop rockers the Virgins (LAist Review) will be strutting their stuff at the Troubadour. Brooklyn-based hard rock trio Earl Greyhound are slated to headline the Hotel Café. And, lastly, Marathon Live will be throwing its Second Annual Musical Christmas Extravaganza, which features the Chapin Sisters and Miranda Lee Richards, at 3 of Clubs. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Airliner in Downtown to catch electronic mastermind Flying Lotus. You can expect to dance alongside a blather of chunky, tribal beats from 2008's tour de force Los Angeles.

Tonight Rockford-based rockers Cheap Trick will be concluding their two-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Austin's own shredders the Sword (LAist Review) are coming through the Viper Room. Buffalo-based alternative rock outfit Mercury Rev will be performing at the El Rey Theatre with singer-songwriter Imaad Wasif (LAist Review). And, lastly, a handful of great local acts, like War Tapes, Seasons and Exitmusic, will be rocking out at Spaceland. But we strongly recommend that you head over to Space 15 Twenty for the Pablove Supreme Benefit. Not only are Eulogies (LAist Review, #2) playing, but Jimmy Tamborello (of the Postal Service & Dntel), Silversun Pickups and Daedelus are slated to DJ as well. Make it out for the great cause and great tunes!

Tonight LA will face a glut of shows. We've got the GuerilLA Fest, which is essentially a renegade traveling circus of sorts. Six bands, including LAist favorites the Happy Hollows (LAist Review), will form a caravan, traveling around the city and playing succinct sets at six different public locales. New Orleans-by-way-of-Chicago Telefon Tel Aviv will be demonstrating their electronic mastery at the Avalon with Detroit-based, dance floor-oriented singer-songwriter Matthew Dear. If you're into archetypal metal, or Guitar Hero for that matter, then Austin-based the Sword will be performing at the Henry Fonda Music Box. Tonight will also mark the final show of Richmond-based Denali's reunion tour. The girl-fronted indie rock act will be performing—original lineup and all—at the Echoplex. It will surely be a night to remember! And, lastly, Kentucky's own troubadours These United States will grace the rather schlocky Cocaine at Live Jazz. But, all in all, the Barack Obama benefit show at the Smell seems to be most promising. LA locals the Mae Shi (LAist Interview) will be rocking out for the cause, along with Bad Dudes and a slew of other experimental rock bands.

Just when you thought stoner doom metal was dead, Austin natives the Sword have stormed onto the scene with some of the darkest riffs and sickest solos since Sabbath. With their sophomore release entitled "Gods of the Earth" in their arsenal of show material, the Sword took the stage at the El Rey and just started destroying ear drums one song at a time.

Will longtime genius-slash-recluse Sly Stone show up to perform as scheduled at the Grammys? We're dying to know. So we'll be watching later today. But in the meantime, music continues to percolate across the net. Here are some indie-ish downloads to tide us all over until this evening.
