Today marks the release of "The Shield: Complete Series" on DVD. This series pushed the boundaries of what could be done on cable television, in terms of content, quality of writing and production, and talent (Academy Award winners galore guested or had long-running storylines). "The Shield" paved the way for current darlings of the critics and viewers like "Damages", "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad", Saving Grace", etc. High quality, aggressive and unapologetic storytelling is not limited to premium cable anymore because of "The Shield".

e're looking forward to the premiere of IFC's miniseries "Bollywood Hero" which premieres a week from tomorrow. The series stars SNL alum Chris Kattan who we always want to see more of, as well as costars Maya Rudolph, Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Coolidge, David Alan Grier, and a host of Indian superstars. IFC has been warming it's audience up to the event by screening Hindi cinema every Sunday this month. Shot on location in India, the show is crewed by the team that brought Slumdog Millionaire to the world.

Kenny Johnson has been in a ton of movies and TV shows over the last couple decades but he's currently best known for his roles as Detective Curtis 'Lemonhead' Lemansky in FX's "The Shield" and as Detective Hamilton 'Ham' Dewey in TNT's "Saving Grace". We were pleased to see Johnson reappear on TV in "Saving Grace" almost immediately after 'Lem' was dramatically assassinated by 'Shane' in "The Shield" and we've been more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the show, its great writing, and superb performances.

The finale of one of the best programs to ever hit the tube happens tonight at 10:00pm on FX. "The Shield" has been a pioneering show from the beginning - by pushing the limits, it paved the way for every other gritty show on cable that network TV has yet to successfully emulate. "The Shield" has never been a "police-procedural" show, it has never been repetitive or cookie-cutter, you will never see "Robot Chicken" do an all-chicken/all-clucking version of "The Shield" the way they did "Law & Order" (although Michael Chiklis did appear on an episode of "Robot Chicken" as Vic Mackey).

President-elect Barack Obama's interview on Sunday's "60 Minutes" garnered the venerable news magazine its highest ratings in nearly a decade. NBC should have got him to do a cameo on "My Own Worst Enemy".

With very few TV news gems today, it should be noted that Tony Dow, the Beaver's brother Wally on "Leave It To Beaver", is having a figurative sculpture shown at the Louvre.

In case you've been in a coma for the last two years, here's some breaking news: today is Election Day. Even Palestinian terrorists/freedom fighters are watching coverage (see right) so get locked and loaded "my friends".

We love Tina Fey's parody of Alaska Governor Sarah "Jessica" (because she's so stylish) Palin but evidently even she doesn't know the next time she will apear on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" to parody the Vice Presidential candidate. As of today, yeah it's Tuesday, Fey and NBC stated that they didn't know if Fey-Palin would be on either (or both?) "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursdays" or the regularly scheduled "Saturday Night Live". As Public Enemy said: please oh please oh please, just give me one more hit.

Hulu has joined the ranks of C-SPAN, Current, CNN, MySpace, and others in live-streaming the remaining presidential debates. So if NBC or Fox are your favorite broadcast networks, then you too can make the switch to an Internet-only lifestyle.

Yes we know that the stock market is crashing but what about that other local industry, the one with actors, and directors, and TV, and movies and stuff. Remember back at the end of June that the Screen Actors Guild didn't ratify the offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers? This means that business in Hollywood is going forward without a current contract between actors and producers which evidently isn't sitting well with SAG, who yesterday urged producers to come back to the table. The Hollywood Reporter states that AMPTP rejected the overture but business is moving ahead as usual - bad TV and movies must continue to be made.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Netflix has struck a deal with CBS and Disney to distribute their content over the internet after their original air date. Do they really think that Netflix will do a better job at this than Hulu? C'mon, why can't we centralize the content a bit more instead of forcing us to deal with your different delivery methods and interfaces.

The hugely overhyped premiere of "90210" happens tonight - when NPR covers it, you know that the saturation level has been reached.

If you happened to catch The Shield's season finale last night, then you can skip this post. However, if you happened to miss it, and it is waiting for you patiently on your Tivo, then run, do not walk, over and watch that thing. We're dying to talk to anyone about it (and we don't want to give away any spoilers here), and all we can say about the ending is: holy crap. It's the one show that probably makes you hate it and love it at the same time. And is it just us, or is Forest Whitaker just amazing at making us hate him while he's playing the good guy? It just baffles. Our hat is off to you, The Shield. Now get back out there and give us the next season already, dammit.
