(Written with Bob Thompson) It was an intimate night of music and comedy as Neil Innes entertained an enthralled crowd in The Egyptian Theater on Friday night, the second of a two-night Innes-Fest at the Mods and Rockers Film Festival. It was more like hanging out in the local pub than attending a rock concert. Switching from guitar to keyboard to ukelele to something resembling a zither, Innes kept stressing it was an "interactive" night,......

Last night The Mods and Rockers Film Festival started out with a bang. Local magic man Martin Lewis kicked out the jams once again. The evening started with out-takes from The Rutles: All you Need is Cash. There are so many subtleties missed the first time around, it was still enjoyable to watch the clips again. Next up was the main event - Frozen Picture's The Seventh Python. Director Burt Kearns did an amazing job.......

Last night The Seventh Python, a documentary following the career of Neil Innes, premiered at the Mods and Rockers Film Festival. LAist interviewed Innes Wednesday. There are a number of inherent contradictions in making a film like The Seventh Python. First of all, how do you spend two hours focusing on a person who notoriously shuns the spotlight? Innes expounds upon his distaste for fame in a film that by its very existence could make......

Neil Innes is nothing if not a gentleman, a distinctly British one at that. Innes was - literally - the John Lennon of the Rutles, recently memorialized here with a thirtieth anniversary showing of the great Beatles-taunting mockumentary All You Need Is Cash that put the four principal actors on stage together for the first time. The anniversary of the film was also marked with the premiere of a multi-media stage show, Rutlemania, that featured......

Friday night was Rutlemania's closing night in Los Angeles. The show is currently headed to New York. Rutlemania is a multimedia extravaganza produced by Eric Idle with all of the Rutles songs performed by the cover band "The Pre-Fab Four". Interspersed between (some rare) clips from All You Need is Cash, and Can't Buy me Lunch, the songs from the film are performed live, like a musical. The theater audience was also entertained by dancing......

The original Rutles reunited for the first time! Well, they actually reunited for the movie showing previous to this one. And they probably had to have a meeting to discuss things, perhaps they went to tea together beforehand, so actually, this is the one of the first of many first times the Rutles reunited - that day" Monday The Mods and Rockers Film Festival pulled out all the stops, and reunited The Rutles for......

March 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of the heady days when those loveable moptops - Dirk, Nasty, Stig and Barry conquered America with The Rutles: All You Need is Cash. This week Eric Idle and Lorne Michaels are in town with Rutlemania, a "semi-spectacular tribute concert." The concert/musical features top-notch Beatle tribute band, "The Fab Four", performing as a Rutles tribute band, "The Pre-fab Four". The multi-media experience is an "all-singing, all-dancing, all-laughing, all-jumping up......

A reading of Cody Henderson’s The Lawn takes place at the Los Angeles Public Library tonight. / Photo by pinkfish_13 via LAist's flickr pool. REAL IRISH MUSIC Forget the green beer, David Munnelly's show “Ireland, A Celebration!” is the real deal for St. Patrick’s Day. There’s traditional Irish music and dancing. David started his career with this little band -- The Chieftans -- before venturing out on his own to form The Munnelly's. 8......
