He's gone to Middle Earth and now he's back again: Peter Jackson has finally agreed to executive-produce not one, but TWO films of "The Hobbit." New Line Pictures, which produced the massively successful and critically acclaimed "Lord of the Rings" films, had originally dumped Jackson from the "Hobbit" sequels because of ongoing disputes over profits Jackson claimed he was owed for "The Fellowship of The Ring." Every summer it seems that there’s one mega-budget studio movie that just goes bust-o. This summer I’d wager that flop is going to be the new Fantastic Four movie, but in 2003 I was fairly certain that Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was going nowhere. LAist has noticed a disturbing trend that must be addressed: the disproportionate number of sea monster stories coming from the Asian side of the Pacific Rim. Clearly leading the industry right now is Japan with their ancient shark, giant squid, and humongous jellyfish swarms. Coming in second would be Australia (happy Australia Day BTW!!!) where a man recently survived a great white bite to the head! Not to mention their fearsome saltwater crocodiles. Competing......
