I'm one of those paranoid, overly dramatic people who convince themselves that the entire world is out to get them. A lot of my paranoid delusions revolve around driving, of course: that dude slowed down just to piss me off! Every time I change lanes traffic gets worse! (Also known as the "Office Space" rule.) These lights are timed badly just to slow me down! Turns out, that last one might not just be all......

It's such a great shame that Adrienne Shelly's life was cut so tragically short last year. Her last film, Waitress, was one of the true, unexpected delights of the summer season. Hot Rod, however, was one of the bigger disappointments. Maybe Andy Samberg is better in two minute increments. I Know Who Killed Me may one day rival Showgirls as a guilty pleasure. It's odd. I really like Rowan Atkinson as a performer...except when......

Coconut Records Nighttiming Young Baby Records Released: May 19th, 2007 Coconut Records is the irresistible, pop-rock brainchild of actor/musician Jason Schwartzman. When Schwartzman quit playing drums for Phantom Planet to star in the Mike White-written Fox sitcom Cracking Up (eew), it heavily divided their fan base. There were the fans that stuck with Phantom Planet despite one of their central songwriters leaving and there were the fans that foreboded the end of the Phantom......

Listen in with Bob and Elise as we check out the new Crowded House release: E: Did you read the liner notes? B: Not yet. E: This is Crowded House’s 1996 “farewell” concert performed live six months after drummer Paul Hester quit in the middle of their last tour. It says he left suddenly because he missed his family. But who suddenly leaves mid-tour from homesickness? Sounds more like he left in a huff. B:......

A Word Or approx. 60: Goodbye O.C., a shame that the show is better now than it has been for the last couple seasons. Hey, who is the amazing Thai girl that was in Lost last night? Lots of new shows tonight, am going to have to order that second Tivo. Tonight - Thursday - February 22nd, 2007 Ben Hur (TCM, 5:00 p.m.) Saddle up for the long haul with this epic classic, cast......

A Word or 36: Hopefully the jerkoff session over the Aqua Teen Hunger Force is winding down and we can get back to real topics like: is Paula Abdul getting replaced by Courtney Love on Idol? And other such ilk. Tonight - Thursday - February 1st, 2007 College Basketball: Oregon @ UCLA (PRIME, 7:30 p.m.) Ugly Betty (ABC, 8:00 p.m.) With cameos from Tim Gunn and Katharine McPhee My Name Is Earl/The Office/Scrubs (NBC,......

A Word or 51: So last night it was either Klaus Kinski or American Idol - they're both abject and base pornography but Kinski won. Get home early today to check out the Winter X Games; other than some The Office reruns the CW seems to have the most new programming but that's not saying much. Tonight - Thursday - January 25th, 2007 The Caddy (TCM, 5:00 p.m.) Classic Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin......

A Word Or 78: Last night I didn't watch anything that I had listed or even Tivoed. I ended up watching "Monster In a Box" on IFC because I had the privelege of seeing Spalding Gray a couple times and there he was again on TV. Wile watching the movie I found it extraordinarily sad to both hear this amazing person talk about his mother's suicide as well as allude to committing suicide himself.......

A Word or 82: The long drought is over my friends -- regular programming is back, we have new shows and new series coming on every day. My life has some purpose again. My thumb was blistered from almost 2 weeks of endlessly scrolling through channel after channel of repeats and other unwatchable TV - I had almost depleted my tin of Bag Balm. Thank you TV, thank you networks, I may have said......

Even though I call LA home, I didn't always live here. Over the years, I've spent time in various other parts of Southern California. Encinitas, Del Mar, San Diego and Fullerton are all places I once lived. Actually, I still think of Encinitas as my other home but as this is LAist and not Encinitasist, that’s not really relevant at the moment. When I first started coming to LA in the early 90s it......

OK so last night's Colbert/Decembrist Green Screen thing wasn't such a great premise but the line-up was incredible. Due to non-existent new programming somebody here suggested that I occupy my time with porn, but this is the TV Junkie spot, not the Porn Junkie spot, I'm not sure that the LAist editorial staff want that to happen yet, and no one has stepped forward to start supplying me with said porn yet either --......

Courtney Love's last words to Kurt Cobain seem to capture our feelings towards the whole Anaheim Angels vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim fracas perfectly. For those of you not keeping up with petty sports politics, Angels owner Arte Moreno is being sued by the City of Anaheim for changing the team's name. The city claims that by calling the team "The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" he is violating the terms of his......

The Los Angeles Times reports today that the Dodgers may join the city of Anaheim in the fight to prevent Arte Moreno from calling his team the Los Angeles Angels. This was only a matter of time. With Arte Moreno proving to be an owner who understands winning, the Dodgers need to protect their turf as much as possible. The Dodgers still dominate LA, so why allow anyone to infringe on their pseudo-monopoly? LAist......

Brace yourselves. Popular teen serial "The OC" returns tonight for its second season on Fox at 8 PM. And now it's leaping off the screen and into our dimension as (shudder) a brand. Women's Wear Daily reports that "a higher-end clothing line inspired by the program will launch for spring after the debut last week of a subscription-based Web site called TheOCInsider.com. Members of the Web site will receive The OC Insider Magazine, which......

This week writer/producer Silvio Horta fields LAist's 20 Questions. The Silvio Horta ouvre includes television shows "The Chronicle" and "Jake 2.0," and the horror flick Urban Legend. Contrary to generally accepted entertainment history lore that Josh "Phenom" Schwartz of "The O.C." is the youngest TV show runner at 27, Silvio was actually the industry's youngest show runner at the tender age of 26. 1. Age and Occupation: 30. Writer. 2. How long have you......

What do Jason Biggs, Zach Braff, Adam Brody, Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, Scott Foley, Scarlett Johansson, Danny Masterson and Rachael Leigh Cook all have in common? LAist was surprised and intrigued to find out that they're all Honorary Committee Members for the Kerry/Edwards Campaign and probably have, really, no involvement whatsoever in the Saturday, October 2nd event "An Evening with Kerry/Edwards" featuring musical artists such as the Black Eyed Peas. The list of supporters......

The future of LA football took a dramatic turn yesterday, as it was learned that the NFL contacted Anaheim about potentially building a stadium. The proposed facility would be placed right by Angel Stadium and be paid for by the NFL or the incoming pro team. This reportedly is all part of the proposed "Platinum Triangle" which is some kind of attempt at creating a downtown Anaheim. (Don't ask us how that affects Downtown......
