Serendipity is the mother of exaggeration, nevertheless it really did happen that Jeff Goldblum played a jazz set on day two of Coachella. Manifesting a band and a baby grand piano in one of the campgrounds, big G played a barely announced and certainly unofficial 'Funny or Die' mockumentary gig for those heading into the venue. more ›

The New Pornographers, The Dodos, Imaad Wasif @ The Fonda 07/20/10

             + 8 more

If you were fortunate enough to have caught one (or both!) nights of The New Pornographers, on tour with The Dodos and Imaad Wasif, you were treated to an eclectic evening of beautiful music that had fans singing along to every song. We're hoping more headlining bands pick their accompanying acts as carefully as The New Pornographers did, allowing music-goers to arrive early and stay late. The Dodos performance alone was worth the price of admission, playing favorites off Visiter and Time to Die. more ›

Tonight In Rock: Kele, The New Pornographers, The Foreign Exchange, One Trick Pony

Tonight In Rock: Kele, The New Pornographers, The Foreign Exchange, One Trick Pony

Tonight Kele, former front man of English indie rock act Bloc Party (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4), will be gracing Cinespace in anticipation of his forthcoming heavily electronic solo venture—2010's The Boxer. (Canceled!) Raleigh-by-way-of-Netherlands Grammy-nominated hip hop duo the Foreign Exchange are poised to headline the Roxy in Hollyweird. And, lastly, local indie rockers One Trick Pony will be performing at Echo Curio. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Music Box at Henry Fonda to catch prolific Canadian indie rockers the New Pornographers, who will be concluding their two-night stint. LAist favorites, San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos are slated to kick things off. more ›

As previously mentioned on LAist, the three day “Lost Weekend” music fest, will take place over October 1-3 at the Pearl Theater inside the Palms Casino. Given the ridiculous lineup and the fact that the Pearl has a capacity of 2,100, getting tickets might be akin to a crapshoot. Tonight In Rock: Animal Collective, Dent May, HEALTH, Tristeza

Hometown noise rock heroes HEALTH are finally back in town, rocking out at the Echo. And, lastly, San Diegan instrumentalists Tristeza will be playing at Bordello with OC's own garage rockers the Growlers. Be the Next New Pornographer and Win

A.C. Newman and Blaine Thurier of Vancouver's finest supergroup, The New Pornographers, have issued a challenge: Translation: Make a better video than the band can, put it on YouTube, and win an iPhone... or something. (We're wondering if that "something" might include signed Neko Case undergarments, as recent history reminds us that even her used corset is worth as much as an iPhone. The New Pornographers admit that they're not OK Go when it comes... more ›
