The Monolators' Top Ten of 2008
December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them.

Swedish songstress Lykke Li (LAist Review, #2) will be accompanied by not only SoCal mainstays the Mae Shi (LAist Interview, Review, #2) and Grand Ole Party (LAist Review, #2, #3), but also St. Albans own electro-pop act Friendly Fires (LAist Review).

As aptly described by Mouse from Classical Geek Theatre, "Before a mixed-crowd of longtime fans and recent, true-believing converts, The Airborne Toxic Event rewarded ticket holders with a near flawless-set that could have just as easily been played at The Hollywood Bowl, The Kodak Theatre, or Coachella. There was no melodrama, very little hype, and nobody on stage had to prove anything. It was just the band and their songs; naked, raw, hard-boiled."
Evan Slamka, Liz Pappademas, The Sweet Hurt & Alex Lilly @ Pehrspace, 6/7/08
