Senator McCain is visiting California for three days for the first time since he locked up the Republican nomination. While in the Golden State, The Man hosted a town hall meeting for military families in Chula Vista on Monday, will host a roundtable event for Hispanic small-business owners in Orange County on Tuesday, and will deliver a policy speech to the Los Angeles Foreign Affairs Council on Wednesday. Interspersed, of course, are scheduled fundraising events. At Monday's town hall meeting, he was greeted by picketers protesting his economic policies. Who would protest McCain's economic policies, you ask? Labor unions.

Now that McCain has secured the Republican nomination, much work has to be done to keep his name in the news while that other party decides how to actually produce a winner. So how does McCain’s campaign plan on doing that? To start, The Man himself is planning a national tour promoting his life story, an overseas trip to promote his foreign policy experience, and town hall meetings leading through the general election.

Aside from being an incredible source for houses, hookers, haikus and everything in between, Craigslist can also a great source of entertainment. Reading through the listings under the personal section, especially "casual encounters" and "missed connections" can serve as a much needed distraction on one of those brutally boring days at the office. These sections may not always be the safest for the work environment, however. If your worried about The Man invading your Internet privacy, than take a stroll through the hidden gem of Craigslist entertainment that is the "Gigs" section.

It may be a holiday, yet Mondays are always a guaranteed good night for music with all the residencies in addition to tonight's appearance of Venice local Harry Perry (pictured right) in WeHo

Though hardly a mainsteam name, George Hickenlooper has managed to carve out a long filmmaking career full of varied and fascinating work. From documentaries (.

With one very notable exception, it's a fairly dull weekend in the movie world. That exception, of course, is the sterling No Country for Old Men. After several misfires (Intolerable Cruelty, The Ladykillers, The Man Who Wasn't There), the Coen Brothers are back with their best film since The Big Lebowski. Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones all give superb performances in this adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name....

Secret Headquarters will be displaying the artwork of comic book artist, Seth Fisher.

Various Artists Kurt Cobain About A Son Music From The Motion Picture Barsuk Records, released 9/11/07 The loud-quiet-LOUD bipolarity and creepy darkness of Kurt Cobain's music comes across loud-and-clear in this excellent collection of grunge, punk, and blues that make up the music of Kurt Cobain About A Son. The fact that no actual Cobain material is used in this makes it even weirder, and if you ask me, better. It makes you miss...

In order to appease the overwhelming influx of dissatisfied early adopter iPhone customers, Steve Jobs has issued an open letter addressing the $200 qualm. Although the logistics seem to be in the works, Jobs has decided to offer $100 of store credit to those who bought the iPhone through either AT&T or Apple without a rebate or any other consideration whatsoever: Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from...

2008 Burning Man Art Theme announced, The American Dream.

On August 28th at 2:58AM PDT, just as the moon disappeared from the shadow of the earth, David Paul Addis fired a flare at The Man resulting in a premature burning of the festival's icon. The San Francisco man faces a felony arson charge in connection with the fire. Addis claims that he is the sole surviving member of the satirical group, Black Rock Intelligence, or "the CIA of Burning Man". Addis plans to...

Last night Jeff Tweedy and the boys of Wilco performed a stellar two hour long set at the Greek. Since I had a wall pass, I had the pleasure of people watching and I must say that Wilco fans are happy folk. Singing along and even dancing at times, the fans were enraptured by the incredible musicianship. The bashful yet charismastic Jeff Tweedy led the crowd through a set comprised of half Sky Blue...

We here in the Ist-A-Verse know that we're sensational, but it's very rare that we get a chance to be sensationalistic. This week, we've decided to have ourselves a little fun and try our hand at tacky tabloid headlines, using nothing more than our favorite posts from this week.

A Word or 14: Supposedly the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert have the week off - how dare they?! I may have to resort to watching PBS, or, godhelpus, the local news. Today - Monday - February 19th, 2007 The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (TCM, 5:00 p.m.) John Ford's '62 classic with James Stewart, John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Edmond O'Brien, Lee Van Cleef, John Carradine and practically everyone else who was alive at...

I humbly present this week's offering of classic crooners, underground rappers, David Bowie, heavy metal, art rock, prog rock, and even a little yacht rock. 'Tis a pity we are built with only two ears.

Although it feels like it's been around forever, blogging is so new that even its Godfather is young. Ev Williams was the co-founder of Pyra Labs, which created Blogger.com in 1999, which he sold to Google four years later. After working for The Man for a year, Ev quit Google and formed Odeo, a podcast service. Like most promising start-ups helmed by successful entrepreneurs, Odeo attracted some investement money and formed a Board of...

There are so many good cds coming out this week, it's sorta like Christmas in August. We will be reviewing some of these cds over the next few weeks, but in the meantime we put our faves in bold.

With the release of the film "Factotum" right around the corner (going head-to-head against Snakes on a Plane), we thought that every night at midnight this week leading up to Friday we should celebrate the work of Charles Bukowski, LA's finest poet.

Yesterday LAist enjoyed a little lunch-break entertainment at the Hotel Cafe thanks to a showcase event hosted by Nettwerk and featuring two of their label's artists, Leigh Nash and Josh Rouse. Nash, who was last seen a few years back fronting the now-defunct pop group Sixpence None the Richer, is prepping her solo debut album Blue on Blue for a mid-August release. Her tunes are thoughtful and very catchy (shades of her old band's infectiously annoying "Kiss Me" single), and are served well by her breathy and airy vocals. She actually wrote the material during her residency in Los Angeles a year or so back, and it's possible to discern a bit of our city's surrealistic luminosity and cinematic atmosphere in her music, particularly on our two favorites of the tracks she shared, "My Idea of Heaven" and "Along the Wall."

While The Other Venice Film Festival finishes up this weekend, three local film fests hit Los Angeles. Tonight through Sunday, Perspectives International Film Festival, at Laemmle's Music Hall 3, features films that challenge stereotypes of the lives of people with developmental disabilities. The Silver Lake Film Festival, in its 6th year, begins next Thursday. Joining them at the ArcLight, will be the Fringe Fest '06 & mp-4 Fest.

Tired of the same-old holiday tunes? Ever wish "Santa Baby" had more punch to it? Fear not, a new holiday mix is here to save the day and wreak some Santa sacrilege on the masses.

While recent events have reminded us in the harshest, most disturbing ways about the dangers and necessities of water, in Los Angeles it’s generally all too easy to forget the virtually seamless infrastructure that makes this town’s existence possible.

While the rain has stopped, some Halloween celebrants might find their parade rained on.
