The LAist Irish Coffee Drink-off
Just in time for St Paddy's Day, we check out some of the Irish coffees around town. Screw green beer. That stuff will kill you. After drinking many Irish Coffees in the name of serious scientific research, I have discovered a good Irish coffee relies on two relatively simple elements: the freshness of the coffee and use of real heavy cream

LA Kids Like to Rock And Roll All Night
Last night I headed to Silverlake to see The Like at Spaceland. Z, Charlotte, and Tennessee have been playing together for about six years now. They started playing together when they were fifteen and are finally old enough to order drinks at the venues where they perform. As I watched them debut a series of new songs, it got me to thinking about how many kids I meet in LA that love rock music. Seventh...

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone
Last night my friend and I had a debate regarding why we liked the bands that we listened to in the 1990s. My friend claims that we liked them because they were good, or at least because they had some magnetism. I say that we liked them just because we didn't have enough musical diversity and choice to have the luxury to discriminate. Sources for new music were limited to MTV and...well...MTV was it really.
Summer Guide to Bookish LA
Here's the thing: we've had a two-week back and forth LAist email about our favorite bookstores. Behind-the-scenes-planning-style. We've waxed poetic about the locations, the staff, the cats (with or without tails), the super-secret nooks and crannies of our best loved LA indies. Why did we email about this? Why were we making a list of favorite bookstores and checking it twice? Because we were going to do a nice little post on Indie Bookstores in...
Challah At Your Jewgirl
So here I am, a nice 26-year-old Jewess living in and looking for love in Los Angeles. There happens to be a lot of us here, and meeting that nice Jewish boy your mother has always dreamt about is harder than it sounds, yes even in LA. Harder especially for us ladies who have a penchant for tattooed musicians and tortured artists with their own penchant for alcoholic beverages and the like. There are a...
