Check It Out: The Garden Opens in Theaters

Not too long ago, LAist tried to turn you on to an absolutely wonderful documentary that hits closer to home than it ever should. It is engaging, enraging and honest. And like all documentaries, it deals with the actions and responsibilities of those around us, for better or (often) worse. It is The Garden.

Pencil This In: Photograph 51 Extends, AFI Screens The Garden

Photograph 51 at the Fountain Theatre has been extended until May 31. It’s based on a true story of Rosalind Franklin, a scientist whose research led to the discovery of DNA. But this drama asks whether her male colleagues stole her data and claimed credit for themselves. It’s a play about science, competition and a woman trapped in a man’s world. Tonight, Rosalind Franklin Jekowsky, niece and namesake of the British biophysicist whose famous photo led to the discovery of the structure of DNA, will lead a Talk Back discussion following the performance. The show begins at 8 pm tonight.

Fortunately you get the gist of what it was like on the roof of Dangerbird Records as Sea Wolf played "The Garden You Planted" (above) and a new...

Every week LAist will tell you what we're listening to, today the troublemakers at the Adult Swim cartoon Aqua Teen Hunger Force told us what they rock out to with their straws out. The Hunger Force have a movie coming out on Friday the 13th - maybe you've seen some of their marketing efforts - and the soundtrack comes out Tuesday the 10th. Carl: Jailbreak - AC/DC If you go to jail, why stay...

Be Your Own Pet Be Your Own Pet (Ecstatic Peace) – Thurston Moore signed this teenage band from Nashville. Critics like to compare the lead singer to Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Most critics think it’s a fun, infectious record but detractors criticize the lack of sophistication. The whole thing only lasts 33 minutes. Tickets are still available for their show at the Troubadour on June 27th.
