Tonight Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters front man, Ohio-bred folk rock singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek will be gracing Largo at the Coronet. Local pop-infused folk sister-duo the Chapin Sisters are poised to ring in their sophomore album, 2010's Two, at the Echo with none other than San Franciscan pop folk act the Finches and Los Angeles-by-way-of-North Carolina quartet Hi Ho Silver Oh. And, lastly, local rock quintet Night Horse will be taking on Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the El Rey Theatre to catch Portland's own experimental indie rock trio Menomena, who recently released their stunning, self-produced and self-recorded fourth album—2010's Mines. LAist favorites, Brooklyn quartet Suckers are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Imogen Heap, Matt And Kim, The Like, Red Cortez

LA-bred all-female, retro 60s pop rock quartet The Like (LAist Review, #2, #3) are poised to headline the Troubadour in celebration of their recently-released Ronson/Greenwald-produced debut, 2010's Release Me. And, lastly, our dear friend Jody at When You Awake is at it again, always keeping busy; This time she's throwing a Beach Boys Tribute at the Bootleg Theater with Red Cortez (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) , the Chapin Sisters, Leslie Stevens (of Leslie and the Badgers), Hi Ho Silver Oh, and of course the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) at the top of the bill. But we strongly suggest spending the day in the lovely confines of Pasadena—the city yours truly calls home—for this year's Make Music Pasadena Festival. It's one of the more beauteous Summer days here in Pasadena: cerulean skies, a slight breeze, and mind-numbingly temperate 70 degree conditions. Two of Brooklyn's finest, dance punk duo Matt and Kim (LAist Review) and indie rock trio the Antlers (LAist Review) will be performing, as well as a bevy of locals—including Warpaint, Voxhaul Broadcast, Breakestra, and Big Whup (LAist Review). And, what's more, it's freaking free!
Tonight In Rock: She & Him, Gonjasufi, Moonrats, The Delta Mirror
Tonight Portland-based alt-country duo She & Him, or rather Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, will be performing at Largo at the Coronet with none other than LA-based folk pop trio the Chapin Sisters in tow. LA-based indie rock trio Moonrats are poised...

But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch Portland-by-way-of-Chicago folk rock outfit Fruit Bats. LAist favorites, San Franciscan psych rockers Citay are slated to kick things off.
Tonight In Rock: Castanets, War Tapes, Devon Williams, The Yummy Fur
Tonight Portland-by-way-of-San Diego Psych-infused folk outfit Castanets will be headlining the Bootleg Theater. Local rockers War Tapes are poised to take on the Dakota Live Music Lounge in Santa Monica with none other than Long Beach's own post-punk outfit Repeater and psych rock act Deep Sleep Ops. And, lastly, long-disbanded, acclaimed Glasgow-bred indie rock quartet the Yummy Furs will be gracing the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to Space 15 Twenty to partake in "Miracle: An Afternoon Acoustic Celebration." LAist favorites, local indie rock singer-songwriter Devon Williams, Lavender Diamond front woman Becky Stark and LA-based folk singer-songwriter Elvis Perkins—among many, many others of course—are all slated to perform as a part of the Mountains and Flowers, an exhibition by artist Susan Cianciolo.
Tonight In Rock: Eric Clapton, Amazing Baby, Leslie and the Badgers, Best Coast
Tonight legendary English blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Eric Clapton will be performing at Hollywood Bowl with Steve Winwood. Brooklyn-based buzz band Amazing Baby are poised to stop by Origami Vinyl early on in the evening. And, lastly, local country troubadours Leslie and the Badgers will be headlining Spaceland with none other than the Chapin Sisters and Olin and the Moon (LAist Interview) in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Echo Curio, which we rarely do, to catch Best Coast, an LA-based pop project of Bethany Consentino of Pocahaunted along with Bobb Bruno. NY-based folk rockers Soft Black are slated to kick things off.
Ceci Bastida, Robert Francis, Juliette Commagere & Rademacher @ The Echo, 5/18/09

Tonight, in what will be regarded as every metal aficionado's wet dream, Metallica (LAist Review) and the Sword (LAist Review) are kicking off a two-night stint at the Forum. NY-based bohemian pop rockers the Virgins (LAist Review) will be strutting their stuff at the Troubadour. Brooklyn-based hard rock trio Earl Greyhound are slated to headline the Hotel Café. And, lastly, Marathon Live will be throwing its Second Annual Musical Christmas Extravaganza, which features the Chapin Sisters and Miranda Lee Richards, at 3 of Clubs. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Airliner in Downtown to catch electronic mastermind Flying Lotus. You can expect to dance alongside a blather of chunky, tribal beats from 2008's tour de force Los Angeles.
Guide to March Rock Music Residencies
Despite SXSW starting up this week with 100+ Los Angeles based bands heading over there, residencies are growing stronger and more venue-diverse across the line, especially on Monday nights where the volume makes it hard to choose from. Here's to a great month of residencies, rock on.

| Sabrosa
Purr |
Local Rock Liars, Petty Thieves and Pets [download] This threadbare, emotional track will grab your attention on the first listen. Songs like "Liars..." prove that Sabrosa Purr is definitely not a one-trick cat. Catch them live Friday, Nov. 18 at Alex's Bar in Long Beach. |
|
| Metric |
Alternative Too Little Too Late [download] Metric recorded "Old World Underground" in LA a few years ago. Now they're back with a new disc, "Live It Out." Read LAist Friday to for an exclusive Q&A with the band. In the meantime, enjoy this track off "Live It Out." |

|
| Stars |
Alternative, Pop Your Ex-Lover Is Dead [download] Stars juxtapose thoughtful songs against unusual arrangements. Stop by Amoeba Records this Friday to hear a free performance. |
|
| Heather
Evans |
Local Jazz A Little Thing Called Love [stream] Evans' voice is clear, but has a husky quality to it that lends authority to the vocal delivery. Sample a few streams on her record label's website and then listen to Evans perform free this Friday at LACMA. |
