Tonight In Rock: Sunset Rubdown, Foreign Born, Sneaky Sound System, The Parson Red Heads

Tonight Wilco and Dinosaur Jr. will be doing their "thing," respectively. Québécois indie rockers Sunset Rubdown, which began as a solo project for Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, will be headlining the Echoplex. LA's finest pop rockers the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) are poised to grace On The Rox at the Roxy in Hollywood with the Boat People and the Picture. And, lastly, Sydney-based electro pop sensation Sneaky Sound System will be performing at Cinespace. But we strongly suggest heading over to your friendly vinyl vendor Vacation to catch local indie rock outfit Foreign Born, who will be ringing in their second full length to date—2009's Person to Person. more ›

Tonight In Rock: Meiko, The Boat People, Zee Avi, These Are Powers

Tonight local singer-songwriter Meiko will be performing at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. Malaysian singer-songwriter Zee Avi is poised to grace Spaceland. And, lastly, Brooklyn's self-proclaimed ghost-punk outfit These Are Powers will be rocking the Echo late in the evening for this week's edition of Part Time Punks. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo early on to catch the Australian Barbecue, featuring Brisbane/Melbourne-based indie rockers the Boat People. more ›

Tonight LA is deprived of particularly noteworthy shows. Jon Brion will be playing here and Princeton will be playing there. We've got the second night of Canadian singer-songwriters Tegan and Sara's sold-out four-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box. And for the second night this week the newly-renovated Palladium will be hosting hip-hop. If we had tickets, then we'd probably stay for the Roots and pass on the Heroes. But for the first time in a very long while, we suggest heading over to the Viper Room to catch Brisbane-based the Boat People. They'll be blasting their exemplary brit-pop tunes tomorrow night as well, but why not be among the first in LA to see them? more ›
