One of the great things about living in L.A. is the profusion of movie choices available. You can see everything from Beowulf in 3-D at the Bridge's IMAX theater to Into the Wild in one of the Landmark's Living Rooms to a revival screening of Bananas at the New Beverly. One of the best choices for more eclectic fare is the Silent Movie Theater. Every month they program several series, any of which is...
This December at the Silent Movie Theatre

Tonight in Rock in LA - Dinosaur Jr, Keane, Nikka Costa
Congratulations to our Keane winner Stephanie. She will be seeing Keane tonight at the Gibson, not the Greek, the Gibson. After the fire a few concerts had to be moved from the Greek to the Gibson, so if you have tickets to the show tonight head to Universal Studios, not the smoldering hills of Los Feliz. We're also being told not to miss Anjani @ Hotel Cafe tonight where she will be being presented...

Weekend Music Picks
Fri 6/2 - Mike Stinson / Flash Express / Stax of Women @ El Cid ($7) – Mike Stinson is one of LA’s finest practitioners of honky tonk music. He’s obviously a huge Gram Parsons fan, but also pays tribute to Parsons’ heroes like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Dwight Yoakam opened his Population Me album with Stinson’s “The Late Great Golden State.” His extremely talented guitarist, Tony Gilkyson (X, Lone Justice) has an effortless style that’s absorbing live. If you like Jon Spencer’s high energy garage-blues, then check out The Flash Express. Download “The Beat That Kills” Stax of Women is a talented cover band that keeps changing their name. The members have big record collections, so they’ll pleasantly surprise you. Or if you’re a Journey fan, check out Infinity at Spaceland.
Around the Dial
There are lots of comings and goings on the radio this week as Steve Harvey's morning show on The Beat signed off on Friday and Suicide Girls Radio joined the Indie 103 lineup over the weekend. Harvey's popular show continued to do well in the mornings but was very expensive to produce and failed in its efforts at syndication. Former Laker and Best Damn Sports Show correspondent John Salley took over the slot for KKBT this morning.
Another Nerd Lineup
We wonder what's going to happen when a large group of Star Trek nerds head to the Embassy Suites LAX for the finale of Enterprise while a large group of Star Wars nerds prepares for the final week before Revenge of the Sith hits theatres across town. Will there be a rip in the space-time continuum? How about a disturbance in the force? Will Star Wars kids don their stormtrooper armor and teleport south and west to battle the trekkies like a sci-fi "West Side Story"?
Was Wizard World Long Beach Lame?
According to The Beat, yes it was. Despite appearances by "Buffy" and "Firefly's" (and soon to be the big screen version of Wonder Woman) own Joss Whedon and comic book icon Stan Lee, The Beat claims sales were sluggish for exhibitors making them cranky by the end. Their pictures also suggest that the crowd wasn't nearly as large as they usually are for these kinds of events. Maybe everyone is saving up for Comiccon and E3.
Comic Commotion 2004
While the nations attention mainly focuses on this weeks political conventions in Boston and New York City, this weekend Southern California played host to a major convocation of its own. Comic book lovers from all over the world invaded San Diego for Comic-Con 2004.
