Miracles of Modern Science are indefatigable defenders of dreaming. Thus they subscribe to the theory that battles are won with brains not brawn. Otherwise, they might not have tackled orchestral pop so literally.

Artist: The Most Serene Republic Album: Population Label: Arts & Crafts Listen to their sample track "The Men Who Live Upstairs": The Most Serene Republic play at the Echoplex tonight, opening for Los Campesinos but don't miss them TMSR because they might be the better reason to go to the show. I love how their new album opens, the first track, "Humble Peasants", is an instrumental but I'm a sucker for whistling during songs. TMSR...
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks of John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band every time I hear The Arcade Fire's "Keep the Car Running," off Neon Bible. I'm used to getting death threats for even suggesting that The Arcade Fire may be the most overrated band of the year but hey, it's not like I'm calling for Eddie and the Cruisers III. They ripped off a band that ripped off...
This week, Phillyist saw the waters of a landmark fountain run red for a Showtime marketing stunt, the Phils pull ahead, and some serious nostalgia. They also got a chance to review an awesome tribute album, reminded folks to see the King, and appreciated their beautiful skyline.
The Arcade Fire show at Hollywood Bowl is only a day away (and we might be dancing in the rain). If you're not already familiar with openers LCD Soundsystem (feat. James Murphy / DFA Records), check out the brand-spankin' new video for "Someone Great," the next single from one of our favorite releases this year, Sound of Silver. Shot by Doug Aitken ("sleepwalkers"). UPDATE: Sadly, this video has been removed from YouTube only one day...
Yesterday we told you how to see 14 pretty good bands this Friday at Coachella, so now let's do Saturday using the Coachooser.

First Sonic Youth announced that they will perform Daydream Nation at the venue up in Griffith Park, and then The Arcade Fire announced that they'll play on May 29th and 30th. On Saturday at 10am tickets for both Arcade Fire gigs will go on sale. So set your alarm clocks. The Arcade Fire are one of the most-welcome return attendees of Coachella in...
Arcade Fire Neon Bible Merge Records Every once in a while a cd will come along that you can't get out of your head. You take it with you to the car, you bring it into the shower with you, and hey look at that there it is playing in your iPod. Arcade Fire's first album was like that, Funeral. Beware though, Neon Bible is going to cost you. It's such a dynamically beautiful...
No offense to the local boys, but we are far more excited to check out the Arcade Fire on Saturday night of Coachella than the Chili Peppers. Which is why we're crossing our fingers that Win Butler, the lead singer and genius behind the Arcade Fire will have successful sinus surgery. Butler announced yesterday on the band's website that for three months he's been suffering from a sinus and bronchial infection and canceling the rest of their Euro tour and getting surgery has become a must.

So how would you end a weekend in which you have the number one movie in the country? Well, if you're Mos Def, you cold rock a party like it was Krush Groove. The Mighty Mos Def and Talib Kweli closed the main stage (to a much smaller crowd than Nine Inch Nails which, we think, had to do with Goldenvoice not naming Mos and Talib in the adverts or the program) with an energetic set spanning their combined efforts as Black Star and their more recognizable solo faire. Common, who loves to show up at LA hip hop shows and do his guest spots, showed in the desert as well.
