Even though Kinks headmaster Ray Davies had traded a loud electric band for an intimate, acoustic duo format, and found himself in this moment performing for a crowd of dinner patrons still finishing their chicken pot pies, the singer made it clear that this night was not going to be a classical recital demanding their silent attention...

Kidrockers w/ The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra & The 88 @ The Echo 12/05/09

Kidrockers w/ The Henry Clay People & Silversun Pickups @ The Echo 11/8/09
Last month, the family-friendly Kidrockers presented a show at The Echo, hosted by comedians Matt Dwyer and Greg Behrendt, with music by The Henry Clay People and the newly Grammy-nominated Silversun Pickups. "Two hometown favorites returning from their respective fall tours, performed together... filling the room with a wall-to-wall mass of kids and their rock-savvy parents, with the Henry Clays modifying their rock 'n roll classicism for the under 18-crowd (lyrical references to beer were quickly and humorously ad-libbed to Hi-C) and the Pickups playing a full-band acoustic set," reported Travis Woods from Web In Front.
Tonight In Rock: NIN, Os Mutantes, The 88, The Silent Years
Tonight Cleveland-bred industrial rockers NIN will be performing, or rather making up for the last-minute cancellation, at the Henry Fonda Music Box with LA-based noise-infused rock act HEALTH (LAist Review). Detroit-bred indie rock outfit the Silent Years are poised to perform at the Roxy with LA's own female-fronted rock act Nico Vega. And, lastly, LA-based alternative rockers the 88 will be continuing their month-long residency at Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to Amoeba Music in Hollywood to catch influential Brazilian psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes (LAist Review).
Tonight In Rock: John Legend, Mew, Band Of Skulls, The 88
Tonight virtuosic R&B singer-songwriter John Legend will be performing at the Greek Theatre. English rockers Band of Skulls are poised to take on the El Rey Theatre with labelmates the Duke Spirit. And, lastly, LA-based indie rock outfit the 88 will be kicking off a month-long residency at Spaceland. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Troubadour to catch Danish rockers Mew, who are slated to open for NIN later this week. LA-via-Tel Aviv transplant Luke Top—otherwise known as Fool's Gold front man—is slated to kick things off.
