The weather was perfect, and the mood jubilant at the 7th annual Songrkran festival in Los Angeles' Thai Town on Sunday. In a cultural and community celebration, Hollywood Boulevevard eastbound from Western was blocked off to accommodate booths offering resources, services, food, shopping, and entertainment, along with a stage for live performances, a Muay Thai boxing ring, and the jam-packed Singha Beer Garden for the 21+ revelers.
Celebrating Songkran in LA's Thai Town
Celebrate Thai New Year, Songkran, This Sunday in Thai Town
The streets of Thai Town will once again be filled with celebration, food, activities, and fun on Sunday as the community gathers to celebrate Songkran--Thai New Year.

All Thai-ed Up: Celebrate Songkran in Thai Town This Sunday
Springtime can mean a renewal of the earth, and for the Thai people, it means their traditional New Year celebration called Songkran. The festival is about celebrating community, and visiting with friends, relatives, and elders. Luckily, Los Angeles boasts a significant population of residents with Thai heritage, and we can take part in the colorful and spirited celebration, no matter our background, so long as we can get ourselves over to Thai Town on Sunday to catch the fun. (There is a website, but it's all in Thai!)
Happy Thai New Year! Songkran Festival This Sunday
East Hollywood will transform into Thailand West this Sunday, April 13th, as the Thai community comes together to celebrate Songkran (the Thai New Year) with festivals, parades, and ceremonies all day long (check out the general Thai Festival website here for more info). All along Hollywood Boulevard, from Western to Vermont, vendors and sponsors will be presenting a kaleidoscope of food, crafts, dancers, Thai boxing demonstrations, costume competitions, and even the largest international curry festival in California.
Weekend Alert: Cherry Blossom Festival
Spring is in the air. And what does that beget? Lots and lots and lots of festivals. Lots of excuses to ride your bike and take Metro. Lots of weekend activities to explore our favorite city. So not only are we excited about this weekend's Thai New Year's Festival that we told you about last week, but the weekend will also be sharing the 6th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival with Los Angeles. It takes place...
Thai New Year's Festival
One of our favorite Thai dishes is Pad Kee Mow (most commonly known as Spicy Noodles). So on April Fool's Day (the first), it better be there at the Thai New Year's Festival in Thai Town.
Photo Essay: New Years Day at the Buddhist Temple
Cuz monks gotta eat too. LAist was at the Wat Thai Los Angeles yesterday to take part in a New Year's Day tradition; offering thanks and support to the buddhist temple which uses this day to collect operating funds and distribute blessings. This is not to be confused with Taleung Sok Day, which is the Thai New Year according to the zodiac calendar. That day (April 15) is marked by the most major Thai festival, Songkran (April 13).
Events: Politics, Films in the Valley, Wine, Corn & Thai
Unless you spent the $225 for the series that includes Al Franken and Ann Coulter tonight at The Gibson, you’re out of luck. Rather, we recommend you check out local celebrity politico Eric Garcetti at the Improv Olympic on The Blank Blank Show in Hollywood.
