When people find out I write about sports the question invariably comes up: what sport do you like the most? I always answer baseball which elicits strange looks. It’s as though they feel I’m strange because baseball is an old-timey sport that drags and is boring. LAst Night's Action: Angels Win a Sad Indictment on Team

LAst Night's Action: Angels Win a Sad Indictment on Team

LAst Night's Action: Angels Wait Until Last Swing To Show Life

LAst Night's Action: Angels Wait Until Last Swing To Show Life

LA Angels defeat Texas Rangers 2-1. It isn’t much, but the Angels showed signs of life. It’s like one of those scenes in those maudlin hospital dramas where the patient has flatlined after being taken off of life support. Family members are crying, doctors are mumbling amongst themselves. Then there’s a beep. The mournful tears of family members are now replaced by tears of hope. And that’s about where the Angels are. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers' Gem in the Bay

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers and Angels Continue to Head South

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers and Angels Continue to Head South

LAst Night's Action: Spurs Kick Clips

LAst Night's Action: Spurs Kick Clips

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 97-88. Baron Davis was out of the game with a knee problem and has admitted that he was out of shape coming into the season. Well Fatty McFat didn’t look like he was needed that much since this was the first game the Clippers didn’t lose in double-digits. LAst Night's Action: Ducks Win Home Opener

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Win Home Opener

Anaheim Ducks defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-3. Things didn’t look right from the start. It was the Canucks, not the Ducks who came into the game leading in penalties and penalty-minutes, who were in the penalty box in the opening minute of the game. In fact less than a minute later the Ducks went on a 5-on-3 man advantage. Something is wrong here. Right as the original penalty expired, Captain Ryan Getzlaf got off the schneid and scored his first goal of the season giving the Ducks their first lead of the season. more ›

LAst Night's Action: UCLA Does What Was Expected of Them

LAst Night's Action: Angels Pull It Out in Extras

LA Angels defeat Texas Rangers 5-4 (11 innings). Even Fernando Rodney couldn’t get the Angels down. Staked to a 4-2 lead in the ninth inning, Rodney once again blew a save thanks to Bengie Molina’s single and an audacious double-steal. Juan Rivera came through in the top of the 11th inning with a solo homer. Torii Hunter gave the Angels the lead with a solo homer in the fourth inning, and Mitch Moreland responded with solo homers in the fifth and seven innings off of Angels’ starter Jered Weaver. Peter Bourjos’s sacrifice fly and Maicer Izturis’ single in the eighth inning gave the Angels the one-run advantage with Juan Rivera adding a solo shot in the ninth inning. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Angels Rally But Lose in 12

LAst Night's Action: Angels Rally But Lose in 12

Texas Rangers defeat LA Angels 2-1. Losers of four of their last five games, the Rangers were desperate to get a win. They got the scoring started when Julio Borbon came home on Michael Young’s sacrifice fly ball to left field. That lead would hold until the seventh inning when Mike Napoli led off the bottom of the inning with a home run. The stalemate held until the 12th inning when a passed ball by catcher Jeff Mathis allowed Jeff Francoeur to score from third for the Rangers 2-1 lead. more ›

The Rangers pulled back ahead in the sixth inning with an RBI double by Hamilton and a sacrifice fly by Bengie Molina. Mike Napoli got the Angels to within a run with a solo shot off of Lee in the seventh, however that would be the closest they would get. LAst Night's Action: Angels Win Series Against Rangers

LAst Night's Action: Angels Win Series Against Rangers

LA Angels defeat Texas Rangers 2-1. The Angels yet again got on the board in the first inning Howie Kendrick doubled in lead-off hitter Erick Aybar, but after that it was a whole bunch of nothing. A pitchers’ duel emerged between the Rangers’ CJ Wilson and the Angels’ Jered Weaver as they staved off the other team. It wasn’t an NL West type of pitchers’ duel where it was 1-2-3-strike out. It took a lot of pitches... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Strike First

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Strike First

LA Lakers defeat Phoenix Suns 128-107. With Kobe Bryant’s knee threatening to squirt fluids on everybody in the first row, he showed how little he cared about that and scored 40 points as he lifted the Lakers to victory. Who needs defense when Pau Gasol adds 21 points, Ron Artest gets 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal, and Lamar Odom makes an appearance with 19 points and 19 rebounds? Hell even with Kobe out in the fourth quarter, the bench kept the lead with Jordan Farmar scoring 10 and Shannon Brown with nine. The Suns’ offense had a big night also with six players scoring in double digits, but they had no answer for Kobe as the Lakers pulled away in the third quarter. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Fail Again

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Fail Again

Pittsburgh Pirates defeat LA Dodgers 11-1. On their second try to try and clinch the NL West, the Dodgers failed miserably. Only today they had no shot whatsoever. Three baserunning mistakes that led to three outs in the first two innings will not get it done. But then again having a spring training lineup won't help things either. Just to make sure the score was somewhat respectable, Chin-Lung Hu hit a sac fly in the ninth inning with one out to score Orlando Hudson. However a couple of positives come out of this: Vin Scully will now be calling the Dodgers clinch, and the Dodgers will do it in the visiting clubhouse at Petco Park. Sweet! more ›

LAst Night's Action: Angels Outpitch Rangers

LAst Night's Action: Angels Outpitch Rangers

LA Angels defeat Texas Rangers 2-0. The score would seem to dictate this was a quick moving game, but quite the contrary happened. Walks and foul balls kept this game a three-hour grinder. Scott Kazmir went six shutout innings for the Angels yielding only six hits and no walks. Torii Hunter got the Angels on the board in the first inning with an RBI single scoring Maicer Izturis from second base. Although it would be the only run the Angels would need Vladimir Guerrero provided some insurance in the top of the third with a lead off booming home run. The Angels bullpen yielded only two hits and two walks in the three innings they pitched. This win gives the Angels a 7 1/2 game buffer in the NL West. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Marquis Loss

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Marquis Loss

Colorado Rockies defeat LA Dodgers 3-0. In the race for win number 10, Chad Billingsley came up on the short end against Jason Marquis. He didn't do a terrible job giving up three runs on five hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings. The problem was that Marquis was better pitching a complete game two-hit shutout on only 86 pitches while walking no one. With the Dodgers offense sputtering, Friday is looking brighter as the days go by. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Win a Squeaker

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Win a Squeaker

LA Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 4-2 (13 innings). The game just wouldn't end. All of the scoring in regulation came in the fifth with each team scoring twice. While both teams had their chances in the tenth inning to put it away, the lack of fundamental offensive baseball kept the game tied. Finally in the 13th inning with Casey Blake on board with a single, who else would knock the walk off homer other than Andre Ethier. To be honest Ethier's at bat looked horrendous until he popped that change up out to right field. So the Dodgers manage to avoid losing three consecutive games, the only team in baseball to do so. Also Randy Wolf gets his 11th no-decision of the season. The offensive star of the game was Juan Pierre who went 3-for-5 with a walk, three stolen bases and NO runs. Like I said, the Dodgers have not been playing fundamental baesball. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Not Smelling Like Roses

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Not Smelling Like Roses

Portland Trail Blazers defeat LA Lakers 111-94. Absolutely nothing in this game was pretty. The Lakers offense was MIA scoring only 56 points through three quarters. A scary moment at the end of the third quarter happened when Trevor Ariza made a hard foul against Rudy Fernandez during a fast break opportunity. Fernandez landed hard on his ribs when he couldn't get his feet under him. Ariza was charged with a flagrant two foul and ejected from the game while Josh Powell and Portland's Travis Outlaw and LaMarcus Aldridge were given technical fouls for the scuffle afterwards. While the Lakers made a valiant attempt in the fourth quarter, a 28 point deficit at the start of the quarter was just too much to overcome. Hopefully they regroup quickly for the upcoming games at Houston and San Antonio. more ›
