The Internet is abuzz today with promotion of HBO's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" to air this Sunday. Some writer's are pointing out that the show doesn't address any of the problems going on in Africa these days (AIDS, war, famine, rape, pillaging of natural resource) - instead it depicts a laid-back and idyllic place with only quaint soap opera-esque concerns. more ›

Tonight marks the end of "Battlestar Galactica", for about 20 years until the geeks of the future resurrect it like they did the now-campy 1970s version. Some have complained that this final season swung the show onto a science-fiction track that was too science-fiction-y but the show had to return to its roots, its core, before wandering off into the cosmos. more ›

Sunday @ 10pm features the return of AMC's incredible series, "Breaking Bad", with Bryan Cranston (pictured, right) as Walt White, the terminally-ill high school science teacher-turned meth cooker. We've been eagerly waiting for this show to resume and AMC has done a great job whetting our appetite with their sneak webisodes and other promos. Controversial contestant Joanna Pacitti has finally been pulled from "American Idol" after it was revealed that she had friendships with multiple executives with "Idol" co-producer 19 Entertainment. For fans of the show who couldn't believe that she had made the cut after performing poorly and fumbling lyrics to several songs during the Hollywood rounds of auditions, it will be assumed that she had moved ahead due to these personal relationships and not merit. more ›

Tonight ends Christian Slater's foray into network TV, "My Own Worst Enemy". Did any of you out there watch it? To us it seemed to cement the stereotype that Slater has a one-dimensional style even though we know he can do more than that. High budget + Star Name + Low Concept = Failure. Did we need another spy/assassin/crime series? No. There's worse shows out there that could use the ax so let's see them use it. How about Holly Hunter's "Saving Grace"? It's true that she showed off her bare bottom about 1.2x per episode but that shouldn't be enough to save that series. Any suggestions of shows you'd like to see go away? more ›

Can't say much about last night's "24" pseudo-premiere other than: Tony Almeida! Also, the "True Blood" finale was excellent, it's such a shame that we have to wait until late summer '09 to get another taste of this vampire madness. more ›

John McCain's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" pushed the show to it's second best rated night of the past decade, only topped by Sarah Palin's appearance a couple weeks ago. "SNL" has garnered a lot of attention for it's meteoric ratings recovery this season but has still been criticized by some, like The New Yorker, for not being as good as it could be. While we understand that for some people, "SNL" will never top it's 1970s incarnation but times are very different now and expectations should be adjusted. more ›

In the mind of the TV Junkie, last night's Emmy Awards were a vindication of the cutting edge programming happening on cable, both premium and basic. With the exception of reality programming and vague miniseries that nobody has heard of, the big networks came up mostly empty other than NBC's fantastic "30 Rock". more ›

Stan Winston, legendary Hollywood special-effects wizard, died this weekend at his home at age 62. He succumbed to multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, after a 7-year struggle with the disease. Winston created some of the most memorable creatures in modern cinema, including the Terminators, the "Jurassic Park" dinosaurs, and more recently, the character suit for "Iron Man." more ›

Now that the writers' strike is over and it's full-steam ahead with the Oscars, you can bet that just about every TV channel is going to dogpile on the gala event. Yeah, the Grammys went ahead without interference but the Grammys are nothing compared to the Oscars. E! and CNN already have several shows lined up (look for Oscar host, Jon Stewart, on Larry King this Wednesday night) ready to tackle the exciting topics of: what will be in the gift bags?
