Turkey Day Forecast: Hot With a Side of Fire Danger

Some radio stations have already busted out the crooning sounds of Christmas tunes (KOST, I'm looking at you) and it's been a few weeks now that lots of shops have had red-and-green decorations for sale and on display, but we're not even at Thanksgiving yet. Looks like our weather won't get the chance to play catch up, either. "You won't need a crackling fire or a sweater this Thanksgiving," jokes LA Now.

Your Wet, Hot Summer: Surf Still Up, Along With Our Temps

Dangerously high surf is still expected today at the beaches, as predicted earlier--all part of the same system of swells that "pounded Orange County beaches on Friday, killing a surfer at the Wedge" according to the OC Register. Massive waves can be awe-inspiring, but the 4-7' swells "and occasional sets up to 9′" and higher in some places mean even the pros should think twice about hitting the water.

Why, Yes, It's Going To Be Hot Again Today! And Tomorrow, And...

Got any eggs handy? You might want to experiment with sidewalk frying today, because we're due to "bake under sizzling temperatures today," according to the Daily News. The heat wave is not releasing its grip on us just yet, and the humidity is clinging too, and we're going to see "highs today in the low 100s in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, San Gabriel and Pomona valleys and the mountains of Los Angeles County, other than the Santa Monica range." They might even set a new record out in Lancaster--beating the one they set yesterday (at a balmy 107 degrees). And it's not going to cool down anytime soon, so hang on, hot stuffs, it's going to be another few days of hot hot heat. The National Weather Service forecasts mid to upper 90s in Pasadena and Burbank, low 100s in the Valley, mid to upper 70s at the beaches, and DTLA will hit 89.

Weather Check: Beaches, 70s; Valleys, 80s

The National Weather Service is predicting a great five-day outlook if you live near the coast: upper 60s and 70s all week long (and weekend, too!). For those inland, it will be in the 70s until Wednesday things move north on the thermometer into the lower 80s until the weekend when the 70s make a return. However, the Valley never gets it so sweet: save for Wednesday and Thursday when temperatures in some ares will reach the 90s, highs will be in the 70s and 80s through Sunday. It will also be mostly sunny after the marine layer clears up in the mornings.

Weekend Weather Check: A Little Rain, A Little Sun

We have a really fast moving front coming through that may bring some very light rain after midnight tonight (70% chance). Before that, today is expected to me mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s. Tomorrow will be cloudy with a 50% chance of rain in the morning. The rest of the day should remain partly cloudy with highs once again in the mid 60s to low 70s. The same temperatures go for Sunday (and likely through next week, too), which is likely to be mostly clear, according to the National Weather Service.

Weekend Weather Check: Strong Marine Layer, Cooler Temps

Now that Coachella is over, the heat wave can be done with its pretty self. This weekend across the immediate Los Angeles region, we're looking at high 60s today and tomorrow and low 70s on Sunday. Today, there's a strong marine layer in the basin that should stick around all day, but clear up in the Valley by afternoon and throughout the city by nightfall. Expect more strong marine layers on Saturday and Sunday mornings as well with afternoon clearing. Lows this weekend will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s and no rain is expected.

As temperatures easily reach over 100 in some parts of the region, it is affecting those who are vulnerable. An 90-year-old woman driving in San Bernardino County died when she stepped out of her car to search for her husband who left the car for unknown reasons. They were found 50 yards from their car and the 116 degree heat killed Virgil Sanders and the husband had 2nd and 3rd degree sunburns.

As Spring turns to Summer this weekend, the temperatures are expected to mark the season change with a bang starting today. The National Weather Service is predicting today's temperatures to range from 95 to 105 in region's valleys. Downtown is expected to be in the 90s and beaches should stay normal (upper 60s, low 70s).

Now here's a lede that will make for more groans: "A fourth consecutive day of scorching temperatures is expected from the Central Coast to the Southern California desert, but forecasters say relief is near," reports USA Today via the Associated Press. "The National Weather Service says highs in the 90s and 100s will again be common Monday before temperatures start heading down toward normal on Tuesday."

Records were broken yesterday around California and the hot weather is not looking to take a break this weekend. "The Valley is supposed to be a sweltering miasma of heat this weekend. Temperatures could hit triple digits," the Daily News reports in an interactive weather map for the Valley. But over the hill in the basin, temperatures are not as bad due to the afternoon sea breeze. LAX only hit 77 yesterday and Downtown was in the mid 80s, according to the LA Times.
