Update on why Ventura Blvd. in Studio City was shut down this afternoon by the LAPD: according to the North Hollywood Police Division, the shooting took place at De Soto Ave and Gresham St. in Chatsworth. Later, the suspect's car was found at the Studio City 7-11, prompting the LAPD shut down the area to search (hence all the helicopters). The suspect was later found in the city of Fontana and was arrested without......

Cisco Adler protégé and collaborator, Shwayze (seen to the left), is hitting up Redondo Beach tonight with his happier sounding indie hip-hop. He grew up in a trailer park... a trailer park in Malibu that is. “To me, it was the nicest trailer of all time," the 22-year-old musician says. He and Adler play at the Venezia Italian Grill and you can start your night in Malibu, riding the bus down with the gang (RSVPs......

This morning on NPR's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!, outed CIA Agent Valerie Plame Wilson played a game called "You're a Blond Bombshell Who'll Do Anything For Attention." The focus of the three questions was LA's own billboard celebrity, Angelyne. Wilson failed miserably, as a CIA agent probably should, but how will you do? Answers after the jump... Her intense expensive efforts to get work as an actress did pay off eventually, only about 15 years......

I don’t have upgraded cable at my home, so whenever I visit my mother, I take the opportunity to catch up on shows on my favorite channel- HBO. During the last visit to my mom’s, I immediately plopped on the couch, flipped to channel 500 and was surprised to see an old couple going at it. Now, this wasn’t a husband and wife having quiet sex on their bed. No, grammy was full on......

HBO is kicking off the season with a slew of offerings, so for those of you moneybags who pay for premium TV, enjoy: 9:00pm Tell Me You Love Me HBO - This new sex drama, purportedly featuring actual X-rated penetration, is rapidly approaching overhyped status. Despite the hot and heavy action, supposedly it's very depressing but because of the sex I'm sure it will last at least a season. Now if only those poor Geico......

Common - "The People" "The People" was one of our most-played summer jamz. It was on Kanye's "Can't Tell Me Nothin" sampler because Kanye produced it and listen to how sweet it is. It's the sort of non-thug, uplifting, positive hip-hop that people once talked about, but now people are buying. This is the direction BEP could have gone if they hadn't chosen the path of the lowest common denominator aka the Gwen Stefani......

HBO has been known to push the envelope. Thanks to the fact that subscribers pay extra for the channel, and there are no commercials, the network is neither beholden to the FCC or uptight whiners. Without those restrictions, the network has been able to blossom with adult-orientated shows like The Sopranos, Taxi Cab Confessions, and Entourage. Now there's word that HBO has a new series about sex that actually shows real penetration between the......

Jim Noir, Tower of Love, on Barsuk Records. "My Patch" is a pleasantly interesting start to this album with telephone-tweaked vocals, uppity rhythm and twangy instrumentation. The clue of what was to come was the Brian Wilson styled bridge. [Hint: if you are a Jim Noir fan, please stop reading here] Jim Noir's effort is one of those singer-songwriter-with-access-to-nice-recording-setup albums. He's an excellent musician and he sure knows how to lay down track after......

We've neglected to welcome new brother site Houstonist into the Gothamist universe. Today they look at the NY Times travel section's look at Houston. American Films of the 1970s. Which features Karen Black on the cover, which should......
