TV Junkie: Our Picks for the SAG Awards

TV Junkie: Our Picks for the SAG Awards

Hard to believe it's already been a year since we last went to the Screen Actors Guild Awards and while it's a shame that we won't be there this year, we look forward to going back next year. [check out our 2009 and 2010 coverage]. Was it only last year that Sandra Bullock pulled then-husband Jesse James onto the stage in the press room to urge us all to applaud for this "handsome" man who "has been so supportive" of her and her efforts? I guess we'll be missing timeless moments like that this year. We felt awful for her but, then again, look at that frickin' guy, it's like she was asking for trouble. more ›

TV Junkie: Dear LA Times, There Have Been 10pm Comedies; TBS Premieres 'Glory Daze' Tonight; Tina Fey Edited By PBS

TV Junkie: Dear LA Times, There Have Been 10pm Comedies; TBS Premieres 'Glory Daze' Tonight; Tina Fey Edited By PBS

NBC announced its midseason Thursday night line up for 8pm-11pm: “Community”, “Perfect Couples”, “The Office”, “Parks and Recreation”, “30 Rock”, and “Outsourced”. The LA Times responded to this by asking the moronic question "Can you laugh after 10pm?" Okay, sure, they referenced HBO's "Entourage" which airs at 10pm on Sundays but that's not what this is about. Of course, the Times might have asked the question in order to get a discussion going but not listing any weeknight comedy shows in the 10pm slot is silly. more ›

TV Junkie: Conan FTW; Fey Gets Mark Twain Tonight; The Return of Olbermann

TV Junkie: Conan FTW; Fey Gets Mark Twain Tonight; The Return of Olbermann

Of course "Conan" opened to stellar ratings last night but as we discussed yesterday, the trick for O'Brien will be to see if he can sustain an audience and continue to convert his new media followers into regular viewers of his TV show. It seems highly unlikely that he will be able to keep the same numbers as he had last night, but if he held onto even half of them, "Conan" would be an overwhelming success. more ›

TV Junkie: It's All About Conan

TV Junkie: It's All About Conan

What could be more important tonight than the debut of Conan O'Brien's new show, "Conan", on TBS at 11pm. Books have literally been written in to tell the story of how O'Brien got to this point in his career. Sure he's got Seth Rogen and Jack White guesting but they're not the reason to tune in tonight. It's no surprise that Letterman and Leno have lined up some heavy hitters as guests, from Han Solo to The Terminator but they won't hold a candle to Conan's storming of the late night airwaves. more ›

TV Junkie: Full Episodes of Conan Will Be Available Online; Taking a Break From Reality

TV Junkie: Full Episodes of Conan Will Be Available Online; Taking a Break From Reality

It was kind of disappointing to click onto the Yahoo! TV News page earlier today to have 1/3 of the stories be crime-related. From David Cassidy's DUI to the report of a contestant of "The Bachelorette" being found dead off of Route 74. While we're not sure if an actual human maintains that page for Yahoo! or if it's assembled by content tags, we're not sure if the connections between criminal activity and TV shows are on the increase, if they're blown out of proportion, or if, in some cases [think Charlie Sheen, Heidi Montag, etc.] these situations happen as part of some cynical PR programs. Were there always this many drunk/deranged idiots involved in showbiz or has showbiz, in an effort to appeal to the lowest common denominator, built itself around these debased antics? It appears to be the latter. more ›

Orange Alert: West Coast To Be Terrorized By Conan Blimp

Orange Alert: West Coast To Be Terrorized By Conan Blimp

In anticipation and promotion of his return to television (Nov 8/TBS), Conan O'Brien has taken to the atmosphere in a bright orange blimp. Until now, only the East Coast was forced to suffer this aerial trauma, but an announcement earlier confirmed our greatest fear, the Conan blimp is coming to the West Coast. Blimps are terrifying. This emotion is best expressed in the 2005 cathartic classic, The Blimp Song. more ›

Conan Says He'll Stay in L.A. for Cable Show, Will Appear on '60 Minutes'

Conan Says He'll Stay in L.A. for Cable Show, Will Appear on '60 Minutes'

When Conan O'Brien took over for Jay Leno, he and his team all moved from New York City to here. Now without a network job and a new show coming to TBS, where is he going? At his stage show last Saturday--coincidentally at the Gibson Amphitheater, just a few hundred yards away from his old studio--he said he's staying in Los Angeles. That news was announced earlier this month, but by gaging the audience's reaction, it was news to most. more ›

TV Junkie: Supreme Court Rules on %$#@!s; FOX Says 'No' To Obama Press Conference; Dr. Bishop, I Presume

Congrats to Bravo for it's best April ever in terms of viewership. Strange to us that "The Real Housewives of New York City", "The Millionaire Matchmaker" , and "Make Me A Supermodel" can fuel that kind of growth during these times but evidently a lot of people we know are watching these shows without copping to it. more ›

TV Junkie: Give Fallon Time; Models vs. 'Lost' & 'Damages'

TV Junkie: Give Fallon Time; Models vs. 'Lost' & 'Damages'

Critics are being rather forgiving of Jimmy Fallon's (only slightly shaky IMHO) "Late Night" debut: they brought out DeNiro who is always a tough interview and Fallon kind of made it work, and Timberlake kind of saved the first show - not sure why they had Van Morrison on, are they trying to reclaim the age 55-and-up demographic? more ›

LAist Interview: John Lehr, Co-Creator & Star of '10 Items or Less'

John Lehr is the co-creator and star of TBS' "10 Items or Less" which airs at 11:00pm on TBS (tonight!). Lehr has been a comedian, improv actor, a writer for several TV shows, a regular on Christina Applegate's "Jesse", and one of the original GEICO cavemen (see his transformation to caveman on his website). "10 Items or Less" was first broadcast as a five-episode "demo" last year but was picked up for a full season this year. We had a chance to talk to Lehr as he traversed the country promoting the show. more ›

TV Junkie: Super Blowhole; 'Last Restaurant Standing' & 'The IT Crowd' Is Back; Check Out Late Night

More post-Super Bowl hype: Nielsen says 95 million watched, NBC says 148 million watched, and Tuscon Comcast subscribers got 30 seconds of porn during the Super Bowl (that's so wrong in so many ways, if you're going to prank me with porn, you'd better provide more than 30 seconds of it). more ›
