TBS is seeing an increase in viewership during the 2009 MLB Divisional Series. In the first two days of the LDS, TBS is averaging a 3.1 household rating and a 15% increase in total viewers (4,525,000 vs. 3,929,000). The LDS has averaged 3,526,000 households in the first two day making it the highest two-day average for the LDS since 2005. All key demographics have seen an increase with males aged 18-34 increasing 19% from last year. Locally yesterday's Cardinals-Dodgers game got a 6.5 rating in Los Angeles, and the Red Sox-Angels game got a 8.0.

Congrats to Bravo for it's best April ever in terms of viewership. Strange to us that "The Real Housewives of New York City", "The Millionaire Matchmaker" , and "Make Me A Supermodel" can fuel that kind of growth during these times but evidently a lot of people we know are watching these shows without copping to it.

Critics are being rather forgiving of Jimmy Fallon's (only slightly shaky IMHO) "Late Night" debut: they brought out DeNiro who is always a tough interview and Fallon kind of made it work, and Timberlake kind of saved the first show - not sure why they had Van Morrison on, are they trying to reclaim the age 55-and-up demographic?

Last week we went to a sneak preview of Demetri Martin's new show on Comedy Central, "Important Things With Demetri Martin", which premiere's tonight at 10:30pm. The show has been in the works since last Spring so we are happy to see it make it on air.

John Lehr is the co-creator and star of TBS' "10 Items or Less" which airs at 11:00pm on TBS (tonight!). Lehr has been a comedian, improv actor, a writer for several TV shows, a regular on Christina Applegate's "Jesse", and one of the original GEICO cavemen (see his transformation to caveman on his website). "10 Items or Less" was first broadcast as a five-episode "demo" last year but was picked up for a full season this year. We had a chance to talk to Lehr as he traversed the country promoting the show.

This Sunday is the SAG awards and while we're excited that there (probably) won't be a strike any time soon we're even more excited to be covering the SAG awards from the red carpet to the winners. Follow our posts here on Sunday or this Twitter feed as we'll be taking photos and posting them from around 3:30pm Pacific until whenever the event wraps up.

There was no way to avoid President Barack Obama's inauguration today if you were anywhere on the 'net, radio, or television - well, maybe if you were watching the Game Show Network you might've missed it. Most media organizations jumped into this inauguration with both feet which was encouraging. Hulu and Facebook streams were reportedly failing, along with several others. Twitter seemed to do OK after doubling capacity in preparation for the day.

2008 was a year where TV saw viewership decline for at least the 8th straight year. We saw even more film stars make their way to basic cable (USA, TNT, TBS, FX, etc.) to star in their own series and we saw the big three networks make even more forays into the realm of cheap reality TV at the expense of scripted programs.

CBS Interactive is up to a lot lately and has created a mash-up for online viewers who will be able to chat, vote on polls, and throw virtual crap at their screens.

It was great to get some late night TV back yesterday, one wonders when the networks will run out of Olympians to showcase - Conan was particularly biting regarding the parade of Olympians and the relative importance they are playing on TV as of late.

The Emmy nominations are out today and finally it seems like they're getting on the right track with nominations for AMC's "Mad Men", FX's "Damages", and Showtime's "Dexter". In comedy NBC is duking it out with itself between "30 Rock" and "The Office". If any of those previously-mentioned shows wins this will be a good year for the Emmys. In particular the AMC and FX nominations are groundbreaking for basic cable to receive such critical acclaim.

Tim Roth is set to star in a drama on Foxthat will be broadcast early in 2009 going along the lines of other film stars who are making forays into television (Glenn Close, Holly Hunter, etc.) - the drama, titled "Lie to Me", is based on the work of a real-life scientist who is able to read the human body and voice to determine if someone is being truthful. Fox is so behind this project that they've ordered a complete set of 13 episodes, if it flops there will still be a DVD.

Jamie Kaler, the stand-up comedian and actor originally from Boston has been on TV for over a decade with appearances in everything from "Will and Grace" to "The New Adventures of Old Christine" but we were given the chance to talk to him about starring in TBS's "My Boys" (Tonight at 10:40pm) as well as sneak a few questions in about his work on Seth Green's amazing "Robot Chicken".

The Screen Actors Guild contract runs out on Monday, yup, the day is fast upon us, and it looks like, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the SAG will attempt to extend their contract instead of vote for a strike. This will keep the studios' projects moving forward while the SAG and AFTRA get in lockstep (or not) and the SAG decides what its deal-breaking points are (or not). The SAG is becoming very aware of how shaky its membership is feeling, economically speaking, after the WGA strike last year. As LAist reported earlier this month, the economic impact of the WGA strike was significant, can the region handle another similar event?

Ladies, you're in luck, you have a chance to date TV hunk Brad Garrett, and who wouldn't want to? The question is, based on current trends in California, why is he limiting candidates to only females? If you desperately want to be a part of the new reality series, Dating Brad Garrett, video auditions are being accepted starting today.

Not only is TBS' "My Boys" cool because it's got the incomparable Jim Gaffigan in it, but they're handing out poker chips that can be cashed in for drinks at Molly Malone's tonight from 6-7pm.

[The Junkie's been sick for a few days but we're back] LAist has some great coverage of the Project Runway finale tonight on BRAVO @ 10:00pm so I'm not even going to touch that. If you can't stand the fashion tension, you can always switch over to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors Meeting broadcast on KLCS and your tension will be released utterly.

It's been going on all day as it is: election coverage. Obviously you have your choice to get this news all night: CBS, ABC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, and probably the best news source, Comedy Central. For all other decent viewing options see below.

In other news, a desperate NBC has ordered a pilot of the BBC's cars & celebs series, Top Gear. The show has been running on BBC America for a couple years now, I've seen a few episodes, notably one with Ewan McGregor. The show may be amusing depending upon which celebrities they line up, but it's no American Idol. Again, instead of coming up with something original, we're forced to watch rebranded concepts from overseas.

As Reuters mentioned yesterday, CBS is going to broadcast the entire first season of Dexter starting in February. The network is also considering borrowing Weeds from its sister network Showtime. Other networks are considering similar reshuffling of shows from their cable-only partners.

I'm hoping you got a bunch of DVDs to tide you over during this dead week as well as until the writer's strike ends. It looks like TCM is running an "aviation in movies" marathon tonight and IFC's featuring Harvey Keitel. For further marathon action, check out BRAVO which is showing all of Project Runway's fourth season (starts at 6:00pm).

I watched Saving Grace last night because there was nothing else on and I was sorry I did it. Holly Hunter I love you but there should be a better show than this for you - it's morphed into Touched By An Angel with touches of profanity. It looks like there's a lot of stuff tonight (below) but it's actually pretty sparse. I'll have some DVD reviews up soon since that's what I'm really watching,...

Relatively speechless tonight because there's so little on TV and yesterday was pretty lame as well. The final schmaltzy segment of Tin Man aired to much disappointment, and Nip/Tuck started out great but fizzled about halfway through the episode. Tonight though, Tyler Perry actually returns to the show he created and that's a big deal so check TBS at 9:00pm. In a bid to save late night television programming as we knew it, the Carson Daly show will jump the gun on production in the coming days; WGA strike settlement or no, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The late night talk shows have taken a big hit since the Writers' Strike began three weeks ago as insomniacs nationwide discover that Nightline never actually went off the air. Jim Gaffigan is an actor that does stand-up but his stand-up is what has made him so popular. He's got the Comedy Central Specials, his performance DVD and CD called Beyond the Pale, his regular bits on Conan pushing the hilarious and self-effacing animated series Pale Force, and, of course, there's a soft drink called Sierra Mist.
