LAPD Officer Russell Mecano, 43, has been convicted of sexually assaulting one young woman and soliciting another for sex while on duty in 2008, reports the LA Times. Los Angeles Police Department officers were sent out on a call regarding a nearly nude man who was standing in traffic removing his clothing, says the Daily News. Once on scene at 54th Street and Avalon Boulevard at around 8 this morning, the officers chased the suspect a short distance, ultimately employing "beanbag and Taser devices." Sometimes a man just wants a little peace and quiet when he's in his home. Perhaps that's what prompted a South Los Angeles resident to threaten his neighbor with a knife for being too noisy in the wee Monday hours, as reported by ABC7. When the cops showed up, the angry neighbor barricaded himself in his home, and a standoff followed. The police tried to take him down with a Taser, but they missed. It was a busy, loud and raucous day at UCLA as emotions ran high before and after a vote to increase tuition by 32 percent. Shortly before 1 p.m., the Board of UC Regents voted in favor of the increase, with only one dissenting vote from student regent Jesse Bernal.
