After weeks of speculation, Tangier will shut its doors for the final time Saturday night. It is not known what will replace the restaurant/bar at 2138 Hillhurst, which is in escrow, according to the Daily Dish. Singer-songwriter Brandon Schott (LAist review) will perform the final set in Tangier Saturday night. Click here for more posts about Tangier.

We're continuing to hear that the restaurant/bar/music concert space that is Tangier in Los Feliz is having some financial troubles and may be going out of business. Whether that is true or not, what we do know is that it is currently in escrow and if that goes through, it remains to be seen what the news owners do with the place.

We haven't seen a Sunday like this since the summertime. We've got Athens-based new wave rock band the B-52's performing at Club Nokia in Downtown. Seattle's own experimental rockers Minus the Bear will be coming through the Henry Fonda Music Box with our favorite Raleigh-based indie pop group, the Annuals. LA locals Tigers Can Bite You are slated to rock at the Alterknit Lounge at the Knitting Factory. And, lastly, singer-songwriter Charlie Wadhams will be continuing his month-long Sunday Night Residency at Tangier. Word on the street is that Tangier will be closing its doors soon due to financial woes. But how could anyone turn down the Part Time Punks Festival at the Echo and Echoplex compound? Not only will some of LA's prominent fringe acts be playing (The Muslims, Mika Miko, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti), but living legends like Manchester's A Certain Ratio will be headlining the predominantly punk-tinged extravaganza. It will be the band's first performance in the US since 1985—the year I was born.

On Saturday night, The Parson Redheads (MySpace) -- previously mentioned here -- headlined a local Aquarium Drunkard (MySpace) showcase at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake, supported by openers The Sweet Hurt (MySpace) and Willougby (MySpace) as well as the Ventura-based The Spires (MySpace).

Nick Adler of the Roxy may have been one of first local music venues to venture out into the Twitterverse, but others are quickly following suit. One of them is Scott Sterling, promoter of The Fold in Silver Lake that books shows at the Silverlake Lounge, Tangier, Redwood, El Cid and Bordello.

Last Wednesday, Hello Stranger (MySpace) frontwoman Juliette Commagere (MySpace) -- backed by a 13 piece band that includes Hello Stranger bandmembers Joachim Cooder and Ben Messelbeck, as well as Obi Best (MySpace) frontwoman Alex Lilly on backing vocals and keyboards, not to mention quartets of horns and strings -- performed her solo act at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake. Opening for Commagere were Charlie Wadhams (MySpace) and the aforementioned Obi Best, who premiered their music video "It's Because of People Like You."

September is here, which means a slew of great residencies around town are launching their first week. That's right, people. Rock shows for free! What a magical concept. It's uncommon that a rapper takes the name he used for over 6 years and transforms it into an indie-rock band, but founder Yoni Wolf is known for breaking the rules and getting great results. Operating within the Anticon collective Why?'s sound is self described as "smart, shimmering, sweetly soured" and front man Yoni's delivery as a "candytime-dissonant, singsong-suicide style".

LA Times staffer and Buzz Bands blogger Kevin Bronson's story "Taking the L.A. indie rock scene personally" hit stands last Thursday. By means of an intimate portrayal, Bronson set forth his pick of indie rock up-and-comers for L.A.'s indie rock scene in 2008. While I completely admire that he would put his neck out there for three rather small, entirely worthy bands (The Airborne Toxic Event, Castledoor, and The Deadly Syndrome) at the forefront of...

Tonight marks the first night of alt-rock band Acute's residency at Tangier. Every Sunday this month will be glorious thanks to frontman Isaac Lekach's wonderful taste in music. He has organized a fantastic lineup for their month long residency. Michael Runion, Taylor Goldsmith (of Simon Dawes), and Whispertown2000 will be playing tonight's show. Miniature Tigers, Ryen Slegr (of Ozma), and Soft Pipes (Ant from Low vs. Diamond) are slated for the second night, September...

Catching Brandi Shearer's sultry voice live would be a great way to enjoy your holiday weekend. LAist caught her last show at Hotel Cafe and was humming her tunes and listening to her album for days. This time around, LAist had the opportunity to catch up with Brandi and get to know a little bit more about what makes her sounds so unique, what it's like being signed to Amoeba Records and how living in...

So there we were. Granted putting ten pounds into a five pound bag, trying to fit too many things into a Friday night but we were fairly convinced we could do what we always do - outsmart LA traffic and when there are moments where the congestion breaks up, well, gun it. Friday was not one of those nights. Maybe it was because it was Friday the 13th. While it has never served as...
