When LA’s last FM talk radio station (KLSX 97.1 FM) opted to go the pop music route (February of 2009) the station’s top gabber, Adam Carolla, turned to podcasting. Two other station employees soon followed the comedian’s lead. In May of 2009, Gina Grad (The Tim Conway, Jr. Show) and Randy Wang (The Adam Carolla Show) gave birth to The Pretty Good Podcast.

CBS Rumored to Be Selling AM Radio Station KFWB
CBS may have to heed cautions issued by the FCC and unload one of their LA radio stations in order to "comply with federal restrictions on the number of stations that can be owned in a single market," reports LA Observed. This puts their floundering KFWB 980 AM station at-risk of being sold, since it has not done well since its switch to "a largely conservative talk format" (aka "The new home of Dr. Laura") last year. Although CBS has fought this rule for a long time, it seems they cannot avoid it any longer. Speculation is that KFWB's new owners "would be foreign-language broadcasters."
KABC 790 TalkRadio Owner Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
In the face of "declining advertising revenue" and with plans to "restructure its hefty debt load," the country's third-largest radio broadcasting company, Citadel Broadcasting Corp., "filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sunday," reports the Press-Telegram. Of Citadel's 224 radio stations is our KABC 790 AM, a talk radio-format station that airs syndicated programming such as Don Imus' show, as well as local talkers Frosty, Heidi, and Frank, and Dodgers' game broadcasts. Citadel's bankruptcy paperwork indicates they have "total assets at Oct. 30 of $1.4 billion and total debt of $2.46billion." A deal agreed to by 60 percent of their lenders "would erase about $1.4 billion of debt in exchange for control of the company."
Joe Escalante, Life After Indie 103.1 FM

Adam Carolla To Keep Talking, Podcast Starts Monday
Despite KLSX 97.1's recent format change to Top 40, morning-talker Adam Carolla promises to keep his gums moving. Long-time staple of LA radio (he hosted Loveline for ten years with Dr. Drew Pinsky,) Carolla will launch a daily podcast on Monday via his new website. The Aceman says --
97.1 FM To Quit Talking This Friday
And so it goes in local radio...another station is shutting down and re-emerging as something the consumers apparently want more. In the wake of Indie 103.1's demise comes word that 97.1 FM, where folks like Adam Carolla, Tom Leykis, Danny Bonaduce, and Sam Phillips take the mic, will be no more as of this Friday, according to Defamer. News spread when Phillips made mention of the shutdown in a Facebook status update. Word has it the station will revamp and roll out again as an AMP Radio affiliate, playing such current faves as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Rihanna. And if it's happening on the airwaves, the proof is on the internet: "According to Radio Insight, someone recently, quietly registered the web domains AmpRadioLA.com, Amp971.com, and Amp971fm.com" a few days ago. And what of 97.1's chatterboxes? "A Howard Stern Show news board is reporting Carolla, who replaced Stern after Stern left for Sirius, has been fired." LAist recently interviewed Carolla's co-hostess, Teresa Strasser.
Danny Bonaduce Booted From Morning Radio
After a year of working together, it appears that Adam Carolla and Danny Bonaduce do not get along, resulting in Bonaduce's removal from morning radio, and reassignment to an affiliate station in afternoons, Perez Hilton says.
