Royal/T in Culver City is hosting its first public program, Tokyo Tremors. This lecture and discussion with UCLA Professor, Adrian Favell will be on June 11 at 7:00 p.m. (more info below photo gallery) Favell will present a guide to four new waves of Japanese contemporary art. He will discuss Japanese culture and society and the work of Mika Kato, Erina Matsui, Toshiyuki Konishi, Mika Ninagawa, Mikiko Hara, Miwa Yanagi, Pyuupiru, Tatzu Nishi, Chiharu Shiota, Tabaimo, Kei Takemura, and Kohei Nawa.

I woke this morning with a start (yes, a start!) and realized that I might, maybe, (oh my gosh did I?) have missed the Murakami exhibit at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. When a huge exhibit opens I either hit it on opening weekend or I wait it out. I wait until all the newspaper reviews have faded, I wait until the crowds have thinned, I wait until people are over it and have moved on to something else.

With just about a month left in the exhibit, artists Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, and Simone Legno will be gathering for a discussion about the work of Takashi Murakami at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. The event, called Pervasive Persuasion, is a panel-style talk moderated by Eric Nakamura, publisher and co-editor of Giant Robot, and will include thoughts on "how and why artists in Los Angeles are blurring the lines of media to spread their ideas beyond museum walls." The evening will end with the opportunity for the audience to participate in a collaborative painting with the artists and a enjoy unique performance art experience by Oguri.

A brief overview of the new Takashi Murakami exhibit at the MOCA.

Up now at GR2 is a group art show called, 'GEISAI Artists at Giant Robot'. The show was put together by legendary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and Giant Robot founder and owner, Eric Nakamura. Together they've picked a hand-full of award winning artists from the GEISAI art show to display their work at GR2. The artists involved are Yasushi Ebihara, Hisashi Kondo, Jaga Ichiro, Sashie Masakatsu, Rie Kawashima, Rieko Sakuri, Miki Taira, and Erika Yamashiro.
