Takashi Miike's 1999 film Audition has made it to Blue Ray and a 2-DVD collector's edition this week. The film electrified (and horrified) the festival circuit 10 years ago and this packaging of the film will only add to the director's cult status in the States.
DVD Review: Takashi Miike's 'Audition'
DVD Tuesday: See Anvil!
FILM
To anyone who has ever had a dream and seen that dream gone unfulfilled, I implore you to see Anvil!: The Story of Anvil and perhaps re-discover the inspiration to continue pursuing that elusive prize. Some have described Sacha Gervasi's hilarious doc as a real-life version of Spinal Tap, but the reality goes much deeper. So many would-be artists pursue success only to give up after a few years of failure. The boys of Anvil demonstrate how a true love of your craft compels you to never quit. Oh, and did I mention it was also fucking funny?
I'm a Ghost
If you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll, head downtown at 12:00 PM for the Downtown Art Walk. Hours run until 9:00 PM, but check the website as some venues close early.
Bang a Gong
At the New Beverly Cinema it's a Takashi Miike double feature, with his new film Gozu at 7:30 PM, followed by the wonderfully depraved Audition at 9:55 PM.
