The suspected arsonist in the Old Fire that scorched some 90,000 acres of the San Bernardino Mountains was indicted by a jury on 5 counts of murder today. Six people died and 1,000 homes were lost in the October 2003 blaze. Months later on a rainy Christmas day, 14 people died when debris flows swept through a Church camp.

UCLA Stabbing Suspect Charged with Premeditated Attempted Murder

The 20-year-old UCLA student who allegedly took a knife to a classmate's throat last week was charged with premeditated attempted murder today. Prosecutors believe Damon Thompson stabbed the female student during a chemistry lab class five times and slashed her throat without any provocation, according to the LA Times.

Second Suspect Finally Caught After Sherman Oaks Perimeter Search

Now here's a humorous ending to yesterday's manhunt for an armed robbery suspect. Although he evaded police during a five-hour search and closure of a few block area, his continued tomfoolery landed him in cuffs. A perimeter has been set up in Sherman Oaks as police search for a robbery suspect currently at-large. At some point this morning, officers observed wanted robbery suspects in the parking of lot of Rite-Aid at Riverside and Fulton. One was taken into custody, but another ran, according to police.

Suicide Note Found on Computer of Suspect in Model's Death

Reality TV contestant Ryan Jenkins allegedly left a suicide note on his computer, the Buena Park Police Department announced today. He never mentions the death of his wife, Jasmine Fiore, but he blamed her for the situation he was in--"professing both his love and disdain for her," according to TMZ. "About half of the letter described how much he loved her, and in the same breath, he would talk about how frustrated she made him and that he felt very jealous about some of her relationships and that frustrated him immensely,"

Is There a 2nd Suspect in the Murder of Jasmine Fiore?

Although the sought-after suspect, Ryan Jenkins, was found dead Sunday evening in a British Columbia motel room, authorities are still searching for Jasmine Fiore's car and the possibility of a second suspect in the case. Her white Mercedes sedan is still missing and may hold the key to clueing police in if there is a second suspect. “The Mercedes is still missing. It is the biggest piece of the puzzle. We hope it will contain evidence that will help us determine what happened,” said Sgt. William Kohanek to the LA Times. “Did someone else drive it away?" Fiore's body was found stuffed in a suitcase on August 15th. The day before Jenkins was at a hotel in Del Mar. When he checked into the Canadian motel while on the run last week, there was a woman accompanying him who is now a "person of interest."

Year-Long Murder Suspect Caught During Metrolink Fare Check

Nearly a year after allegedly shooting two men, leaving one dead in the San Fernando Valley last year, Andrew Lee Thomas Jr. (pictured to the right) was caught on a Metrolink train in the Santa Clarita Valley last Friday afternoon during "a routine train fare compliance check" by LA County Sheriff's. One of the officers recognized Thomas, 21, from an LAPD wanted bulletin. Thomas was questioned and gave a fake name, but when officers pulled out a mobile finger print verification device, he was idenfitied and arrested. Last year on August 23rd, Kyree Rasheen McCray, 28, was shot and killed at Reseda Park during a youth football game. A second victim was wounded.

SWAT Responds to Barricaded Suspect in East Hollywood

A possible arson suspect has barricaded himself somewhere on the 5400 block of Russell Avenue, near the intersection of Hollywood and Western, according to the LAPD. Not many details are available, but police believe he may have a weapon. A good number of police and fire have responded to the situation that is currently ongoing.

Murder Suspect Caught in 'Oft-Criticized Quality of Life Arrest'

17-year-old Lily Burk's murderer is allegedly Charlie Samuel, a parolee transient, who was arrested for drinking in public and possession of drug paraphernalia. Already behind bars, he was later connected with Burk's murder after fingerprints from inside her car matched. Sameul's "quality of life" arrest under the LAPD's Safer Cities Initiative has received a lot of heat as of late. Only Grandpa Was Home:  Arcadia Standoff Ends In Mystery

A bizarre standoff took place overnight at a home in Arcadia located in the 1700 block of Mayflower Ave. as local authorities responded to a 911 call regarding an armed suspect who had allegedly barricaded himself in the house with hostages. The caller identified himself as someone who had fled the home, according to cbs2. "Arcadia police Captain Gene Gioia said previously a police SWAT team and sheriff's negotiators have been trying for hours without success Monday to communicate with the man."

Second Suspect Arrested in Hit-and-Run That Killed USC Student

Yesterday evening, authorities took the second suspect into custody in connection with the recent hit-and-run accident that killed one USC student and left another seriously injured. 32-year-old Josue Luna was found "attempting to cross into the U.S. from the Mexican border when a computer alerted Border Patrol agents that he was wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department," according to an LAPD press release issued today. Agents from the LAPD fugitive unit "picked up Luna and transported him to 77th Division Jail for booking." Luna posted bail at noon today. His wife, Claudia Cabrera, 30, was arrested for her role in the accident that took the life Adrianna Bachan, 19, and injured Marcus Garfinkle, 18. Cabrera pleaded not guilty to the charges of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run driving on April 6th. A memorial service for Bachan was held the following day.

3rd Suspect Arrested in 'Upscale Burbank Neighborhood' Murder

A third person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 49-year-old Burbank woman that took place at her front door on February 25th, according to cbs2.com. Jasmine Voskian was shot and killed after she answered the door of her home in what is described as an upscale area in Burbank.

Suspect Arrested in Fatal USC Hit & Run

Police this morning have announced that they have arrested a suspect in Sunday morning's hit and run that left one student dead and another injured. This comes one day after an anonymous donor added $100,000 to the award, already at $135,000. The accident happened early Sunday morning, as Adrianna Bachan, 19, and Marcus Garfinkle, 18, were walking across Jefferson at Hoover on their way home from a frat party and were struck by a driver who ran a red light. "According to a witness, the driver stopped the vehicle and a passenger got out of the vehicle to remove [Garfinkle] from the hood onto the ground," the LAPD said in a statement. "The passenger was described as a male Hispanic. The passenger got back into the suspect car and the driver drove eastbound on Jefferson Boulevard." Bachan died at the hospital and Garfinkle was listed in stable condition.

Suspect Still at Large Following WeHo Wee Hours Stabbing

A fight outside Astro Burger (7475 Santa Monica Blvd) in West Hollywood in the early morning hours "escalated into a stabbing," reports abc7.com. The incident was reported to authorities just before 3 a.m. and resulted in one man being hospitalized, with the suspect still at large. Sheriffs on scene were working with witnesses to determine what caused the fight and to get a clear description of the suspect, but were facing a jumble of stories at the time. The name and condition of the victim has not been released, and the authorities are asking that anyone with any information about the fight and the alleged stabber to come forward with details.

Two Teens Arrested for Silver Lake Street Robberies

The LAPD's Northeast Division officially announced today the capture of two teenage suspects who may be responsible for at least two of the recent street robberies in Silver Lake and could be linked to similar ones in a other neighborhoods in a nearby police division, Jesus Sanchez from The Eastsider LA reports from an earlier press conference. Police recovered iPods, cell phones, guns and knives from the suspects homes. Two other adult males reported to be arrested Monday are also under investigation for the recent crimes in Silver Lake. No suspects linked to the robberies in Echo Park have been caught yet.

Car Chase Suspect Owned a Luxury Rental Business in Chicago

The man behind the wheels of last night's car chase is unofficially identified as Mustafa "Moe" Mustafa. His name has not been released by authorities but family members and police sources told the LA Times his identity. After shooting himself when SWAT team members surrounded the car, he was transported in very critical condition to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Last night's car chase began shortly before 8 p.m. and was widely suspected to be Chris Brown and then DJ Khaled. The LAPD continued to say throughout the incident the suspect was not a high profile person.

Suspect who Killed 4-Year-Old Arrested

Howard Astorga, 25, an alleged gang member, was arrested for the Monday shooting death of 4-year-old Robert Lopez. Astorga "is a recently paroled convict who has served prison time for firearms, narcotics and other offenses," Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz said, per the Associated Press. On Tuesday, Lopez was walking just two doors from his house between Echo Park and downtown with his sister when a bullet meant for another alleged gang member fatally hit him in the chest. Police announced the capture of somebody Thursday night in preparation of this morning's early press conference, but rumors spread that multiple suspects had been arrested. After a series of robberies by three suspects around the North Village area of Westwood Village, UCLA campus police saturated the area with undercover officers eventually witnessing a street robbery in progress. "We caught the suspects with a little bit of luck and a little bit of experience,” UCPD Sergeant Robert De Francesco told the Daily Bruin. Both UCPD and LAPD believe the suspects are responsible for at least 13 robberies in the area since October 1st. Add: Two robbery suspects were arrested today near USC for trespassing.

A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested in last week's slaying of Bryan Richard Frost, 23. Frost was walking with two other students early morning on the September 18th near 28th Street and Orchard Avenue when the suspect, Travion Terrett Ford approached and an argument turned fight began for unknown reasons. Frost was killed by his stabbing wounds.

Update, 2:40 p.m.: According to Officer Diaz per KNX1070, the suspect hit one of the officers twice in the head with the butt of a knife. The other officer fired a couple shots with one apparently entering a Metro bus slightly injuring one passenger. The other shot hit suspect who was brought to hospital in stable condition. This was at the Southeast corner of Sunset and Vermont.


Both the LAPD and the LA Fire Department are reporting incidents in the vicinity of Sunset and Vermont Boulevards, but both cannot confirm if they are related at this early stage.

Three different news stories are making the rounds today, all of which involve cars and crimes, and all of which are best defined as "things that make you go hmm?" (Are we still allowed to say that?)

The Long Beach Fire Dept.'s Arson Division is searching for suspects on the city's west side where more than a dozen small fires were started late Monday night/early Tuesday morning. "With the time of day and the close proximity to residences, any of these fires could have turned into something far more serious, even fatal," said LBFD Batallion Chief Frank Hayes. Fires were set to vehicles and in trash cans although no serious damage was done. At least 22 arson fires have been set in the past seven days, according to Hayes. An Anaheim police officer responding to an 8 a.m. indecent exposure report at the Best Western Raffles Inn wound up shot in the leg on the scene. According to reports, the two officers who arrived at the hotel parking lot saw the suspect near his vehicle, and the shots were fired, although it is not clear if it was the suspect doing the shooting. The suspect fled following the incident and has not been found.

A chase that began at around 7 p.m. in Glendale ended with a crash right on the world-famous Walk of Fame at Hollywood and Vine last night.
