Two years ago today, LAist ran a feature about a little record shop opening in Echo Park. Many people wondered if it would weather the rough economy, but since then it's not just survived--it's thrived. In addition to its choice selection of new and used vinyl, Origami has become one of the smallest LA venues to host some of the biggest names.

Tonight In Rock: Villagers, Midnight Juggernauts, Mississippi Man, Summer Darling
Tonight Aussie electro pop trio Midnight Juggernauts will be headlining the Echo, ringing in their sophomore studio-album—2010's The Crystal Axis. Local folk-infused indie rock outfit Mississippi Man are poised to conclude their month-long residency at the Echo. And, lastly, Silver Lake-based indie rockers Summer Darling will be doing the same at Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to Bardot to catch Conor J. O'Brien, or Villagers rather, a critically-acclaimed, young Dubliner who is making waves with his Mercury Prize-nominated debut—2010's Becoming a Jackal. He will be performing solo tonight, but we'd like to think that it'll be appropriately intimate and all too genuine. LAist favorite, local folk rock troubadour Ferraby Lionheart is poised to perform as well.
Summer Darling, The Monolators @ Spaceland 07/19/10
For those of you living under a rock, Silver Lake's Spaceland has been doing a Band-in-Residence program for some time now. The idea is pretty straightforward: A headliner plays each Monday of the month, with rotating supporting acts, all put on by a local promoter. Oh, and did we mention it was FREE?
Interview: Ben Heywood of LA-Based Band Summer Darling
LA-based band Summer Darling has extended an irresistible invitation for you to get to know their music. Throughout the month of July, tickets to their Monday residence at Spaceland are free. And to top it all off, the full digital version of their latest album, also called Summer Darling, is available free of charge via their website.
Tonight In Rock: The New Pornographers, Mississippi Man, Summer Darling, Evan Voytas
Tonight prolific Canadian indie rockers the New Pornographers will be headlining the Music Box at Henry Fonda with none other than San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos. Local folk-infused indie rock outfit Mississippi Man are poised to grace the Echo with local pop quintet Big Whup in tow. Silver Lake-based indie rockers Summer Darling will be headlining Spaceland with local shoegaze-infused rock duo-turned-quintet Seaspin. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Bootleg Theater to catch local electro pop singer-songwriter Evan Voytas.
Tonight In Rock: Summer Darling, Mississippi Man, The Outline, Secret Cities
Tonight Silver Lake-based indie rockers Summer Darling will be headlining Spaceland with local post-punk act Twilight Sleep. Local folk-infused indie rock outfit Mississippi Man are poised to grace the Echo with none other than LA-based blues-infused indie rock duo Rumspringa (LAist Review, #2). And, lastly, experimental indie rockers the Outline will be taking on the Bootleg Theater with local indie pop quartet Superhumanoids in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Echo Curio to catch Fargo-bred psychedelic rock trio Secret Cities, who are currently touring in support of their second spectacular studio-album—2010's Pink Graffiti.
