Last night's Midnight Ridazz was a blast, but those not on bikes probably did not think so, including the LAPD. One thing you have to know about the Midnight Ridazz is that the route is almost never announced until you arrive. In last night's case, the only map we received was of Zürich, Switzerland. It didn't make sense until you realized that the ride was dubbed Dada. Others tried to figure out acronyms like......

Do we need to say much more than that to give you a "ha!" and an "uhhhhh?" at the same time (now this should be the definition of interrobang)? Supposedly, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's were in the midst of a training exercise that included this bag of dummy explosives. But someone who wasn't supposed to get to them, got to them first and stole it. Metro stopped the Gold and Red Lines before hitting......

Friend: What did you do today? LAist: Well, we started the day off at the LA River Center in Cypress Park. Then headed to the Valley over to the Sepulveda Basin, where the river is at its wildest. Next was the verdant Glendale Narrows across from Griffith Park to see the new mini-parks. After lunch, we headed to the Arroyo Seco confluence where trash was everywhere, yet is near where LA was founded. Then......

This Saturday is the return of the FAB Market downtown. Sponsored by the Selah Artistic Giving Center—an organization dedicated to supporting the local arts community—as well as other local groups, the Market will feature a little bit of everything. On the bill are artists and designers selling hand-crafted goods; live performances by Bike Extravaganza; ethnic and organic food (from the likes of Taste of Life Vegan Food, Mamas Hot Tamales and Cobblermania); business resources......

“How will we ever recover?” showman Charles Phoenix asked the audience following the spellbinding presentation by master Bob Baker and his dazzling crew of puppets and marionette-iers. A few days later, we still haven’t. Memories of the overwhelming tribute to Baker linger. The fascinating documentary about Baker’s seventy-plus years making and operating marionettes, Phoenix’s captivating slide presentation, and the tour-de-force performance featuring seductive kittens, petunias and onions, glow-in-the-dark skeletons, sort of freaky clowns, and......

As the nights grow darker and colder, we seem to treasure light and make it the centerpiece of the winter season. Here are some upcoming events to get you in the mood: Bottom's Dream Theater Company presents the World Premiere of "FireFlow: Two Tales from Andersen" featuring 2 Hans Christian Anderson tales adapted by Erik Ehn "Matcher in the Nigh" (The Little Match Girl) and "Blister" (The Story of a Mother) directed by James......

The Soto Street Bridge at Mission Road and Huntington has been deemed functionally obsolete (PDF). The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks plans to remove it and replace it with "green space" and a sculpture by Los Angeles artist Stephen Glassman. Judging from Glassman's work in West Hollywood, we bet the piece will include poles made of natural material indigenous to the area and be very, very tall. We just hope......
