What's going on lately in the L.A food scene? Chew on this: There's a basketball-inspired cocktail smackdown happening this season in DTLA, a new Chick-fil-A is opening today in L.A., one restaurant is offering a foie gras farewell menu, a brewery has a bigger, better, badass pub, and more.
Chew On This: Another Chick-fil-A, A Farewell Foie Gras Menu, Clippers Versus Lakers Cocktails & Golden Road's New Pub
A Mouthful: 4 of L.A.'s Top Comics Talk Comedy Over Burgers
It's a pretty simple formula: comics who aren't exactly starving these days + gourmet burgers = great food and better conversation. Recently, LAist sat down with Paul Scheer, Dave Holmes, Steve Agee and TJ Miller to discuss everything from the current state of comedy on television, life in L.A., and those shows that almost made them quit. The burgers - an LAist favorite from Susan Feniger's Street - weren't bad, either.
Conan O'Brien Makes Another Plea For a Street Named in His Honor
Not long ago, Conan O'Brien announced that he wanted a street in LA named after him. His plea came about after his long-time nemesis, Oprah Winfrey, had her name permanently lent to a road in Chicago. As part of his request, O'Brien even identified his street of choice: West Raymer Street in Van Nuys.
Live in Los Feliz? Didn't Like the Organic Liaison Party Last Night? Owner Kirstie Alley Says Get Laid & Get a F-Ing Life!
If Kirstie Alley was hoping Los Feliz would embrace her new health food store, Organic Liaison, she might have reconsidered how she premiered the shop. Last night, Vermont Avenue, in the heart of Los Feliz Village, was shut down to traffic to accommodate the store's splashy opening party. Residents weren't invited, but they were treated to a night of noisy music, dancers on platforms, and giant spotlights. Didn't like it? Alley doesn't care.

And they're off!! WIth a goal of filling and fixing up to 15,000 road hazards this weekend, approximately 50 city road repair crews have been deployed across Los Angeles repairing potholes and pavement deterioration caused by recent, heavy hitting rain.
Eric Garcetti Wants to Fill Your Nasty Pothole, Now
City Council President Eric Garcetti hates potholes, and chances are, you do too. If you've got a loathsome pothole that is ruining your commute (not to mention your vehicle) Garcetti says don't hesitate to phone it in to 3-1-1 so crews can come fill it.
TrustoCorp's Guerrilla Street Sign Improvements Come to Gallery1988
"ATTENTION: SHIT COULD BE WORSE"
"YOU LOOK LOVELY TODAY"
"YOU ARE NOT COOL" These may be the kinds of phrases you mumble while driving around Los Angeles wishing the few open parking spots weren't so far away and didn't have $4/hr (incl. Sunday) meters. But what if those six-part, multiple-infraction, day-and-time sensitive parking signs in Hollywood were replaced with something more sensible?
Video: Culver City Sidewalk Becomes Giant Game Board
IndieCade is an annual "international festival of independent games," and their conference was held earlier this month here in Culver City. As part of the festivities, several locations in Downtown Culver City were set up as public games, much like public art installations, including one called "Culverland," which used the sidewalk like a giant game board similar to Candyland.

Each week, Aarti will give us her take on the episode, from her unique insider's perspective. Will she be named The Next Food Network Star? We won't know until the finale. Last week, things got hot hot hot on the red carpet; here's how Episode 4 looked from inside the kitchen...

Top Chef Masters: An Interview with Susan Feniger
Susan Feniger of Susan Feniger's Street will be competing for title of Top Chef Master during season two. We took this opportunity to check in with LA's most cheerful chef (and to try to finagle some Kaya Toast). Who did you have the most fun working with?
Honestly, all the people I had the chance to work with were down to earth, open and great to hang with
getting to know new people and see old friends
that was a great part of this experience.

Get Your Fez Out! The Museum of Kitsch is Launched!
Allee Willis is a lot of things - songwriter, artist, director, performer, hostess extraordinaire, and owner of a fab mid-centry modern home -- the list goes on. Personally, I love her for introducing me to Bud Cort and for writing "Boogie Wonderland". Just try to listen to that song and not boogie.

Save Your Quarters! Park[ing] Day LA Returns for 3rd Year on Sept 18
Park[ing] Day LA returns for its third year, when on September 18th metered parking spaces all over the city will be taken over by temporary on-the-fly green spaces where anyone is invited to sit down, relax, play, grab a bite, or chill out. With the aim of promoting the value--and in turn, the lack of--safe, accessible, and plentiful green spaces in Los Angeles, the event is an opportunity to break with convention and bring communities together.
On the Street Where Susan Feniger Lives
I have often walked down this street before, but there was no Kaya toast or Moldavian meat before...
What Street Construction?
"City of LA's Bureau of Street Services successfully cleared vehicles from the streets of Atwater Village by 6:00am, but haven't started much work here 2 hours later," the neighborhood blogger noted today in this Flickr photo. Another photo shows a car ticketed for street sweeping restriction: "City of LA is leaving $58 parking tickets on cars that had to move off closed streets in Atwater Village and had noplace to park but on other streets restricted for sweeping."

Yum! Susan Feniger's Street Food Themed Restaurant to Open Soon
Walking up La Brea this afternoon, we stopped by the location for Susan Feniger's new restaurant Street. The site is still under construction, but the new sign is up. We peeked in to find Feniger standing near the door and couldn't resist asking her for some details. "When will Street open?" we eagerly asked.. Feniger, with a big smile on her face, said, "In a few weeks!" It looks like there is still a good amount of work left to do to get the space ready for opening. We will definitely head over to check it out when she starts cooking to new dishes for her street food concept menu.

LAist Interview: Bomb It Director Jon Reiss
In 1999, director Jon Reiss brought the electronic/rave scene to audiences with the documentary feature Better Living Through Circuitry. Reiss now returns with another kinetic documentary, this time exploring the controversial art of graffiti in Bomb It. Shot with vivid colors and set to an energetic soundtrack, the film investigates the history of graffiti while profiling artists all over the globe. Featuring old school legends and current favorites such as Taki 183, Cornbread, Stay High 149, T-Kid, Cope 2, Zephyr, Revs, Os Gemeos, KET, Chino, Shepard Fairey, Revok, and Mear One, the production shot in the United States, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Japan. Rather than just a slide show of graffiti examples, Bomb It is an explosive kaleidoscope of artists showing where the state of public space and personal voice sometimes clash and coexist. From sunny townships to dark serpentine tunnels, the film takes audiences along for the ride on guerrilla tagging missions and painting parties.

A chase that began at around 7 p.m. in Glendale ended with a crash right on the world-famous Walk of Fame at Hollywood and Vine last night.
World, The Time Has Come To Push The Button
We love the creative culture of Venice Beach. Somebody actually took the time to create this metal sign and install it at an intersection on Abbot Kinney. Instead of pointing across the street, the arrow guides pedestrians to a liquor store....
