LA Angels defeat NY Yankees 12-6. The Angels continue to roll. This time they used three Earl Weavers hit by Torii Hunter, Juan Rivera and Vladimir Guerrero to put the beating on the Yanks. Jon Garland had a good outing for the Angels going six plus innings giving up three runs on seven hits. While Darren O’Day made the game more interesting than it needed to giving up three runs in the ninth, Jose......

LA Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 16-10. In an effort to conserve energy, the Colorado Rockies apparently decided to turn of the humidor. The Dodgers came out with a bang scoring eight runs in the first inning. They would go on to take an 11-0 lead in the third inning, but Coors Field being what it is the Rockies would make a comeback. After being shut out for the first two innings, the Rockies scored......

Suns 106, Lakers 98 - Maybe Mitch Kupchak isn't a cupcake, but an evil genius. After mis-managing the Lakers in recent years, it turns out he was right about Andrew Bynum. He refused to trade the young center, and all of a sudden the kid got GOOD. Unfortunately, he's out with an injury and his backup was worthless against Phoenix (hence the evil part). Kwame Brown had seven turnovers and missed an open dunk. Bravo.......

What to do, Lakers fans! As the countdown to tip off commences against evil vampire leader Steve Nash and the rest of the Suns (ironic, isn’t it? That they’re named the Suns? Because Vampires HATE sun!), the faithful should cherish the Laker’s tentative hold on that first place spot in the western conference. We ain’t gonna have it long, folks. Laker GM Mitch Kupchak called into the Dan Patrick Show on AM 570 KLAC this......

You can halt production on that purple and gold 2008 NBA Champions afghan you’ve been crocheting so diligently -- Lakers center Andrew Bynum is going to be out for the next 8 weeks. Bynum suffered a dislocated kneecap and a bone bruise courtesy of Lamar Odom’s big ass foot during the Laker’s victory over Memphis on Sunday. The good news is that the injury will not require surgery and the 20 year old big......

For this belated Season Preview of the USC football team I haven’t concerned myself with typical journalistic staples like accuracy, objectivity, or integrity. I am not a sports writer or blogger (I’ll leave the heavy lifting to guys like Scott Wolf and Ben Malcolmson). What I am is a USC graduate with an extremely biased view of Trojan football and semi-regular Internet access. In the exhaustive research I put into writing this, I have......

Cardinals 12, Dodgers 2 - At least the Dodgers took the first game from St. Louis. They were hammered in the rubber game, as Mark Hendrickson allowed eight runs on 11 hits in just 2 and 2/3 innings. Andre Ethier was the only Dodger holding up the offense, with a double, triple, and RBI. Angels 6, Twins 2 - The Angels shut down Minnesota in three straight games this weekend. Jared Weaver lasted 7.1 innings......

B-Dizzle Up-Dizzle - LA's last hope is out of the NBA playoffs. The Utah Jazz beat the Golden State Warriors 100-87 and took the series in five games. It was a battle until the end, and we mean battle.  There were 50 personal fouls, 31 against the Warriors. Several were flagrants and technicals. Ducks 5, Red Wings 0 - After stealing home ice advantage with a split in Hockeytown, USA, the Ducks were cooked when they......

What do Dirk Nowitzki, Kobe Bryant, and Steve Nash have in common? Besides being three of the biggest ballers in the NBA, they've also just been memorialized in this somewhat awkward but incredibly clever vlog. Paul Brogan reminds us a little of Andy Sandburg from SNL and a lot of those guys from VH1's Best Week Ever. LAist can't wait to see more of him on You Tube.......

Suns 113, Lakers 100 - The Laker's season could be down to one game. The Suns outshone Los Angeles and took a 3-1 series lead thanks to huge performances from Steve Nash (23 assists, 17 points) and Amare Stoudemire (27 points, 21 rebounds). Nash's assist total was one shy off the all time playoff record, held by Magic Johnson (who was in the stands) and John Stockton. Not bad company. On the other side of......

Suns 126, Lakers 98 - Phoenix had lost game two in each of their past five playoff series. Not this time. The Suns burnt the Lakers so badly that Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire both sat out the entire fourth quarter and each only saw 24 minutes of action. Kobe Bryant made just five of 13 and was held to 15 points. Unlike game one of the series, Kobe tried to set up his teammates......

Despite all the talk about the Lakers’ newly revitalized motivation after reading about how the Phoenix Suns and their coach put them down in a book about last year’s playoff series, no one realistically expects the Lakers to beat the Suns in this year’s playoffs. Recent projections by four “NBA experts” printed in Sports Illustrated called Phoenix to win in either five or six games. Couple that with the Times reporting Lakers coach Phil......

In the last 23 years, NBA playoff seven seeds have won four and lost 42 series of their first-round playoff series. Not good news for the seventh-seeded Lakers, who tip off against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday (noon on ABC). Still there is some hope -- last year in the playoffs against these Suns the Lakers took a 3-1 series lead (but eventually lost in seven games); and even during the recent Lakers slide some......

Suns 115, Lakers 107 - Kobe led the game with 34 points, but Steve Nash used his 50th double-double (25 points, 11 assists) of the season to lead Phoenix past the Lakers. Los Angeles has now lost five times in the last seven games and fell to the seventh seed in the West. They're half a game behind Denver, who will host the Lakers on Monday. Dodgers 10, Giants 4 - Journeymanstar Luis Gonzalez hit......

Well, it’s official. Kobe is the only player in history besides Wilt Chamberlain to play four straight 50+ games. In Friday night’s game, Kobe scored exactly 50 points, carrying his team to a 111-105 win over the New Orleans Hornets. All eyes were watching, tallying each point he made. And Kobe did actually attempt to be humble: In a pre-game interview, he graciously told John Ireland that one of the best parts about being......

George Takei 1, Tim Hardaway 0 - See video. Suns 115, Clippers 90 - Both teams entered the game with some injury concerns and a three game loosing streak. Both teams saw an injured star return. Only Phoenix ended their loosing streak. Two-time league MVP Steve Nash returned from shoulder trouble to record a double-double, including 8 points and 7 assists in just the first quarter. The game was never in doubt, with Phoenix......

The trailer for Denzel’s new movie, opening on Thanksgiving weekend, explains that “you arrive at a place you’ve never been, but it feels … familiar.” Tell me about it. Our last memories of the Clippers were walking off the court in Phoenix, dejected after the MVP Steve Nash-led Suns offense ran circles around them in Game 7. There were also more pleasant memories of the Clippers emerging victoriously on their home court after a......

Damn... Almost there. So close... Well for the first half anyway. Then the runaway sports coupe that is the Phoenix Suns put it into 6th gear and left the Clippers in the dust winning the decisive game 7 127-107 to advance to the Western Conference Finals... again. The three days rest was enough to rejuvenate the engine, Steve Nash, which in turn rejuvenated the whole team. Nash went for 29 points and 11 assists,......

Last night's game was so entertaining, we're almost not upset that the Red & Blue lost. 130-123?! Is this 2006 or 1986? The Steve Nash/Sam Cassell battle is going to be a great one and the flashes of brilliance that Shaun Livingston shows on the court has us extremely hopeful for the future. Here's what's being talked about in Clipper Nation: The Mighty MJD:The Suns took Game One from the Clippers last night, despite......

Wow... thats all you can say. Ok, scratch that. YES!!! is another word that comes to mind. Assassin, Kobra, Heart-taker... whatever you want to say, it will fit. Kobe Bryant hit the game winning shot, in overtime, to give the Lakers a 99-98, come-from-behind game 4......

We just started reading LA Sports Columnist and one-time LAist interview subject J.A. Adande's blog this week. Actually, just yesterday when he posted some of the mail he's been getting regarding his NBA MVP column in which he had the gall to not choose Employee #8 (and not to get sidetracked but this LAist contributor agrees. Steve Nash made every player on his team look like an MVP candidate and LeBron James played like......

The Lakers and the Clippers are in the NBA Playoffs and well... we're happy for them. In a place like LA where we are used to titles, the playoffs used to be a foregone conclusion (well except for the Clips). But as it turns out, changes swept the landscape here and just to show you how weird things got, the Clips, who had their best season EVER, are a higher seed than the Lakers.......

Is anyone else concerned about the Lakers point guard situation? Sure, we were glad to see Chucky Atkins pack his bags, but we assumed another point guard would be taking his place. So far all the Lakers have done is sign Smush Parker. Now Smush Parker may be a fun player, and LAist thinks the second-year man from Fordham has a decent game, but when he's your best point guard you've got a problem.......

As the Lakers put the finishing touches on a contract for new coach Rudy Tomjanovich, we don't anticipate too many "Ru-dy" chants at STAPLES Center if Kobe Bryant is not wearing Purple and Gold. Byrant met with the Clippers yesterday at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles. LAists presumes he didn't need a tour of the arena. Bryant has also met with the Nuggets, but it's doubtful that Kobe's frequent trips to Eagle has......
