What else can I say about Iron Man that I didn't say in my rave yesterday? According to the great Nikki Finke, it looks like it's going to be a monster hit so I guess I don't need to encourage you to go see it. I'll actually be seeing it again this weekend because I failed to stay through the entire end credit roll and see the rumored Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) cameo at the end. Don't make the same mistake.

I won't keep you in suspense a moment longer: is a rousing start to the summer movie season. It succeeds not only as a visually dazzling popcorn movie, but as a human drama about a man forced to finally consider his former and future place in the world. Great credit must be given to two crucial players in the film: director Jon Favreau and the wildly counterintuitive choice of actor Robert Downey Jr. as the film's hero.

According to The Beat, yes it was. Despite appearances by "Buffy" and "Firefly's" (and soon to be the big screen version of Wonder Woman) own Joss Whedon and comic book icon Stan Lee, The Beat claims sales were sluggish for exhibitors making them cranky by the end. Their pictures also suggest that the crowd wasn't nearly as large as they usually are for these kinds of events. Maybe everyone is saving up for Comiccon and E3.

This morning LAist read that the Travel Channel will air the "Marvel Super Heroes Guide to New York City" special on Sunday, August 15, at 8:00 PM. The show features comic book industry writer/creator/editor veterans—like Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider-Man) and Roy Thomas (former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics), among others—discussing the impact that NYC and its famous landmarks have had on superheroes and US culture.
