UCB is blowing it UP this week, with Billy the Mime, new Harold improv teams, and some lovely lady stand ups to close out the weekend. Also, the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival starts on Thursday and runs the weekend, so head downtown for 30 mins. or less of laughing. And in keeping with my journalistic integrity, my sketch group The Seven Year Plan will be rocking a free show (+ bevvies?!) on Saturday night in Santa Monica at the Westside Eclectic. Now all you internet snoops can’t hound me for not having full disclosure. Blow me up if you want to rep your own shit shamelessly, too.

While Alex Berg, Todd Fasen, and Alex Fernie would probably hesitate to call themselves heroes in any capacity (that is, unless they somehow saved a baby riding a puppy from getting run over by a truck full of hate and fireworks), the moniker does have a certain amount of applicability. In a staggeringly short amount of time, the three-man improv juggernaut named Convoy has risen through the ranks of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB), going from weekly improv battle competitors to big-name Thursday night draws. 44 consecutive Cagematch wins in a row will do that for you.

In recent weeks, Los Angeles seems to be the “it” city when it comes to becoming eco-friendly. First, Gov. Schwarzenegger held the Global Climate Summit in Beverly Hills. Shortly thereafter, Mayor Villarigosa announced plans for Solar LA in his continued effort under GREEN LA. And then, earlier this week, iHollywood Forum hosted “Hollywood Goes Green”, inviting industry and advertising personnel to attend and learn what has been done, and can continue to be done, in the effort to go green.

In 1991, "resocialized" murderer and Austrian writer Jack Unterweger visited Los Angeles to pen a story about the difference between attitudes toward prostitution between Europe and the United States. Unterweger's initial long term imprisonment was for killing a prostitute by strangling her with her own bra, but was released after 14 years. While in the the LA area, he killed three prostitutes and fled California, eventually being caught by the FBI in Miami. Once back in Austria, he was convicted of eleven homicides and committed suicide.
