The Red Sox has permeated nearly every facet of Bostonist's lives. When they're not live-blogging the games, waxing poetic about the games, thanking Curt Schilling for his splendid work, or telling Dane Cook to watch his hair, they're watching certain presidential candidates hop on the Red Sox bandwagon (sorry, Gothamist). The Sox are so branded on the local brain that people are using the Series to spice up their sex lives. Speaking of spice, Bostonist is really sick of that taco promo. And, while they're proud of John Williams, Bostonist is still trying to figure out Williams' "Very Special Arrangement" of the "Star Spangled Banner."

Jib Jab has a history of giving us great quality and highly snarky video creations. Their newest is to help us celebrate our Nation's 231st birthday and is an assortment of Presidents saying words and lines from the Star Spangled Banner. Obviously we're only privvy to those who have made their way into TV Land. Which is too bad. I heard Andrew Johnson was a hoot!
On this day in 1984, a paranoid, drug-taking, freaked out Marvin Gaye was shot and killed by his father, Marvin Sr., at the elder's home on Gramercy in the Crenshaw District. 1983 was very good for Gaye, he won his first Grammy, he performed that unforgettable version of the Star Spangled Banner at the Forum before the All-Star Game, and he toured around the US. Unfortunately he was driving himself crazy with the concept...
Who ever would have thought that Kelly Clarkson would have become a Grammy-winning superstar, and who would have thought that Justin Guarini would have fizzled off into where-are-they-now land? And who on Earth would have thought that Clay Aiken would still be on people's radar? Apparently Justin is still trying to make it happen and this morning we bring you his halfway decent version of the Star Spangled Banner, which, just like his career,...
Now let's hear an American Idol who can actually sing. This morning we have Fantasia Barrino singing "The Star Spangled Banner" in what appears to be Houston Texas as the Astros were about to face off against the New York Yankees for the All-Star Game. Maybe one day "American Idol" will invite all the winners and almost-winners face off against each other in some million dollar winner-take-all Super Idol series. Of course we'd miss...
Every Almost every morning we bust with the "Star Spangled Banner" for your hard-working asses. We think it's nice that you now get to put your hand over your heart and sing along with the national anthem every morning there at your desk. Last night Ellen told a little joke on the Oscars that if you wanted to accept an award on a big show like that that you should lie and say you...
Every morning at 6am we post a version of the National Anthem so you can honor the country from your cubicle like the patriot we know you are. Yesterday, however, was Kurt Cobain's birthday. He would have been 40. We knew about it but we were busy at the Barack speech and then we had to jet over to Burbank to watch the Silversun Pickups do a half dozen songs on the Carson Daly...
Every morning at 6am we have been playing the National Anthem. We're pretty sure we can do one a day until the end of the year without repeating. Today we're happy to bring you Phish, in what is surprisingly a fine example of excellent harmony. It's not crazy and swirling and show-offey, it's happy, proud, and solid. Not at all what one would expect from a bunch of ice cream eating long haired hippies....
Last night was the NBA All-Star Game, and if there was an all-star team of NBA national anthem singers, the coach would be Maurice Cheeks, who saved the ass of Natalie Gilbert in this clip that still brings a little mist to our eyes. On this President's Day, feel free to sing along to the "Star Spangled Banner". Why not?...
"Where are the Jews?" We get a lot of email at LAist. Especially when the comments are being a tad wonky. "You let everyone else sing the 'Star Spangled Banner' why not let some men of the Hebrew faith up there?" So in honor of PITCHERS AND CATCHERS reporting to spring training yesterday, and to honor a pretty simple request, we bring you Sam Glaser at Dodger Stadium with his jazzy rendition of our...

Every day at 6am we stoke you with the "Star Spangled Banner". Today we are playing a request that we got yesterday. When possible we love to take a good tip and make it happen. If you know of a really good rendition of our National Anthem, and it's on YouTube, do what this person did and just give us the url. The Aerosmith singer belted this one out during the World Series that...

Every morning at 6am we have been posting a video of someone singing or playing the "Star Spangled Banner". Depending on how many people stuck around to halftime to hear Prince, this was probably the most-heard song in the entire world yesterday. We've got to say, Billy Joel was a safe choice, but a good one. We would have preferred someone from Indiana or Chicago, like, say, John Cougar Mellencamp or Billy Corgan or...

Every morning at 6am we are posting a video of someone singing or playing the "Star Spangled Banner". One of the coolest things about 2006 was the return of The Dixie Chicks, who came out with an amazingly powerful record, a successful nationwide tour, a super insightful documentary, and several Grammy noms. Turned out that their only crime was in criticizing the President a few years before the country did. Lou Reed used to...
