SPAM sales are on the rise. / Photo by freezelight via flickr. When I was growing up, SPAM made an appearance on our kitchen table more times than I care to remember. We could afford other meats, but the pink meat-in-a-can was a kind of tradition for my parents, who were fed the stuff after the American GIs left the Philippines. (I guess they forgot their SPAM on purpose?) I remember having SPAM sandwiches......

There are thousands of people that read this blog via their subscription to LAist's RSS (Really Simple Syndication). But sometimes when people hear the word "RSS," their faces go blank. RSS is a pretty sweet tool to know how to use. Basically, instead of visiting a handful of your favorites sites everyday to see what's new, you visit one site, your RSS Reader, and all your favorite sites are loaded into one clean space. It......

We've all seen phishing e-mails before (thank you eBay, PayPal) but it's a bit trickier when the e-mail deliberately asking you to pony up your e-mail username and password comes from a sender purporting to be USCTEAM. The e-mail received today by several USC e-mail account holders suggests that the user's e-mail account will be terminated "permanently" within 7 days lest the recipient respond with account details including username, password, date of birth, and "country......

That said, Google and StopBadware.org have now joined together to bring their internet neighborhood watch to your web block:What is this page? You landed on this page because Google's independent testing......

Los Angeles based blogger and advice "goddess," Amy Alkon, was featured on last night's Nightline about Blog Slapping. (Nightline) Who are the Chandlers? They are a famous Los Angeles family and you should know something about them. (Morning Edition, NPR) LAist parent company Gothamist, LLC is featured on CNN about NYC 911 callers being able to soon send pictures and video when reporting a crime. The CNN video is unlinkable (ZDNet) Muslims are protesting......

Someone has been hacking their way into MySpace user accounts and posting bulletins for them (bulletins are a way of communicating with all your MySpace friends without e-mailing them all individually). Sneaky thing is, the bulletin is about Six Flags Magic Mountain and the targets are a good number of residents in the Santa Clarita Valley, which is home to Six Flags in its Valencia neighborhood setting. hey guys, just heard from a friend......
