Summer Music Means It's Hip to Be Pershing Square
Summer in LA is so frequently associated with sunny days and balmy nights that bring the masses out for gatherings and celebrations. We gather at outdoorsy events that serve to bring us together, and let us get a little lost in the spirit of the city, and all it has to offer. Downtown's Pershing Square is banking on this sentiment, as this week they've launched their 2005 Summer Concert Series. Themed concerts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now until September dedicate a day each to genres like Motown, Jazz, Pop, World, and Blues, as well as tribute bands covering familiar favorites. (We wouldn't mind stopping by on June 23rd to check out the alt-rock group Minibar.) There's a series of Youth Concerts once a month that feature theatre and games from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and also Salsa Sundays from 3-5 p.m. on the third Sunday of every month. The concerts are free and open to the public, and are held right in Pershing Square's beautiful downtown space, from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Don't forget to bring your laptop--Pershing Square is unwired so they're humming with not only the sounds of free summer music, but also with free WiFi!
