ose Tulio Deras, 21, has been sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison for the 2011 beating death of his infant daughter and the rape of his wife, according to City News Service.
Deras delivered the fatal beating to 9-month-old Valerie on January 15, 2011, because the baby girl would not stop crying.

A student at South East High School in South Gate is in critical condition after a boy stabbed her during lunch break today. Four people who stepped in to rescue the girl, including a school dean, were also injured.
The stabbing attack happened today after 11 a.m. and the school was temporarily locked down until 1 p.m., according to KCAL.

A man driving a U-Haul pick-up truck was shot in the head and killed shortly after midnight in South Gate Tuesday night.
The victim, Randy Telles, 23, of Bell Gardens was identified today and police are releasing a description of the alleged shooters. After Telles was shot, his truck rammed into a car, took out a gate and crashed through a carport.

The body of 50-year-old Francisco Rivera was found stabbed to death on a "popular and well travelled" bicycle trail along the LA River in South Gate, and investigators are asking the public for help in locating the suspect, according to a LASD news release.

Paul Vernon in a news release. Ramirez, who was also booked on various narcotics possession charges, is employed as a teacher’s aide at an elementary school in South Gate.
