The L.A. Flower Market - the nation's largest flower market - just grew a little greener with the installation of a 280 kilowatt solar electric system. One of the largest privately-owned commercial systems in LADWP's administration, the system will harness the sun to generate energy for the 90-year-old market and its vendors via 1,246 solar panels.

The panels are expected to churn our over 2.4 million kilowatts, say mall chain Westfield officials. The price tag for this solar spree is $6.6 million; it's also Westfield's biggest solar endeavor.
