As highlighted in today's TV Junkie column, KCET's SoCal Connected premieres for its second season tonight. And in our humble opinion, it is the best TV investigative journalism you can find in Southern California. We watched a little sneak peak of tonight's episode about texting while driving and found it fascinating.

Will you like Drew Barrymore's Whip It? We know at least one person over at the LA Times that did. As mentioned earlier today, Ellen Page (Juno) who stars in the movie will be producing a single-camera comedy for HBO called "Stitch N' Bitch" that she will co-write with actors write with two other young actors, Alia Shawkat and Sean Tillmann (aka Har Mar Superstar). The story follows two hipsters as they relocate from Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood to Los Angeles' Silver Lake in a bid to become artists. No release dates set yet.

Over 31 million American households watched the Michael Jackson memorial. "Households" is the operative word as that is what Nielsen measures, TVs in the home, not office or bars/restaurants/etc. That's a huge number since other major events like Princess Diana's funeral (33 million viewers), President Reagan's funeral (35 million viewers), and President Obama's inauguration (38 million viewers) occurred when people were more likely to be at home.

There's a ton of season finale's this evening but the most compelling TV is KCET's "SoCal Connected" and then just about everything on NBC from "Parks and Rec." through to 11pm - much like yesterday, late night has a lot of good options, although "Daily Show" and "Colber(t)" have been a little lackluster this week, so check out the full listings. Unless you tell us differently - please give us your suggestions.

Following up last week's conversation about Los Angeles' far flung suburb with KCET SoCal Connected correspondent John Ridley, here is the spot that aired. At one point, Robin Leach (you know him as the voice behind Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous) blamed President Barack Obama's mention of Vegas in the context of bailout money for the cancellation of 55 conferences. They have some extra videos, too, including the normally packed airplane from Burbank to Vegas:

Tonight on an all-new episode of KCET's award-winning news program, SoCal Connected, which airs at 8 p.m., correspondent John Ridley, takes viewers on a tour of the gambling Mecca that reinvented itself during good times only to now face new challenges during a tough economy.

The big news for TV and for LA is that President Barack Obama will be a guest tonight on "The Tonight Show" - we know what we'll be watching at 11:35pm (sorry Colbert).

While we still don't believe that Joaquin Phoenix's schtick on Letterman last night isn't anything other than a stunt, it doesn't mean that show's like "Late Night" need to go along with it. Do the producers of his latest movie, we don't even remember what it's called, think that this has helped them? What's your take - is Phoenix faking or tripping?

One wonders why they would punish themselves by watching "Lost" and "Damages" back-to-back on Wednesday nights as the experience is thoroughly disorienting but that's probably the idea.
