If you've missed Ken Burns' latest sprawling effort on PBS, you can catch it today when it drops on DVD. Silver Surfer was better than the original Fantastic Four, but that's not really saying much. Got to love Doug Jones, though. 1408 was a surprise summer hit. I think it'll work even better when you're watching it alone at home with the lights turned off. Entourage was never the same after the Aquaman arc,......

Pixar's Ratatouille was tops at the box office this weekend, raking in a healthy 47.2 million dollars. While that number was well below previous Pixar films like Cars (60 milllion) and The Incredibles (70 million), it was more than enough to take down Bruce Willis and Live Free or Die Hard which pulled in 33.1 million. Both movies enjoyed across-the-board good reviews and should show decent legs in the coming weeks. Last week's clunker......

A few weeks ago in this space, I predicted that Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer would be the big-budget flop of the summer. Turns out I missed it by one week. Evan Almighty tallied a meager 32.1 million dollars at the box office over the weekend--well below already reduced expectations (the ugliest five words a studio chief can ever hear--worse even than "the call girl taped everything"). Considering its budget was somewhere......

Last week I went to five concerts in five nights. It was a strange and unusual experience. I will review each of the shows in a second. But first I would like to dedicate the reviews to two people. The first would be the to the guy who put those dollar bills into the urinal at the Troubadour during the Menomena show. Dear guy, I appreciate you challenging my values in regards to wealth.......

Either he learned a few tricks from the Invisible Woman or the Silver Surfer was swiped from out in front of the Cinerama Dome at the Arclight. Hollywood resident Peggy Archer tagged the photo above on the LAist Featured Photos group on flickr and asks the question "Isn't there supposed to be a guy on there, or is the character a disembodied foot?" Hopefully (we always try to stay optimistic) the statue was not......

If ever there were a date to debut an expensive almost-sure-to-be-crap comic book sequel film, it would be June 15th. It's the summer, so kids are out of school and looking for a movie to waste their allowances on. It's PG enough that parents can take their youngest. And it's just hot enough in middle America and the South that anyone without an air conditioner will be looking for a dark theater to kill......

The marketing departments of major studios have nothing on Los Angeles' guerilla graffiti artists. This promo for Spider-Man 3 is the second of two billboards for summer superhero movies tagged by (I think) the same artist. The first of these, a Silver Surfer billboard for the Fantastic Four sequel on Melrose near Martel, has since been removed, but you can still see this one (I hope) on the North side of Melrose at Mansfield.......
