LAist first met Long Beach/Los Alamitos-natives Avi Buffalo last March at an LA-Underground-presented showcase that included local rising stars The Sweet Hurt, Ema and the Ghosts, Amnion, and Cobra Lilies.

Tonight LA is making a slow, but steady recovery. LA-based ska rockers the Slackers will be headlining the El Rey Theatre. LAist favorites the Monolators (LAist Review, #2) and Seasons are slated to perform at the American Legion Hall in Highland Park. And, lastly, Shiloe (LAist Review) will be rocking for free at Redwood Bar. But we suggest heading over to Club Nokia in Downtown to catch the principal architect of P-Funk, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.
As we approach Christmastime the generally vast pool of shows shrinks to nothing. Tonight Mike Stinson will headline the Redwood Bar & Grill with a few other country troubadours. And Japanese singer-songwriter Ed Masuga is slated to perform at the Silver Lake Lounge. But—unless you're frantically wrapping presents still—we strongly suggest checking into the Hyperion Tavern to see Oakland's own alt-rockers the Blank Tapes.
Sunday afternoon in LA has been taken over by matinee performances. We're really excited about Kid Rockers, a wondrous series of shows that aims to bring families and great indie music/comedy together. LA-based indie rockers the Deadly Syndrome and the Afternoons will be playing at the Echo for the kiddies, along with comedians Patton Oswalt and Seth Herzog. You must have a child in hand to gain entrance. Inara George ("bird") and Greg Kurstin ("bee") will be performing a special solo show up the street at Tangier Restaurant in Los Feliz. But for those of you who are looking to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon, we suggest you save your energy for the Bigler Benefit Show at the Echoplex. The fundraiser, which features hometown favorites No Age and the Movies, is being held in Michele Bigler's honor. Recently, the artist/local music scene fixture was diagnosed with cancer and, like far too many Americans, does not have health insurance. All proceeds will go towards Bigler's treatment.
Last Friday, LA-Underground presented a showcase with Shiloe (MySpace), El Olio Wolof (MySpace), Rademacher (MySpace), and The Monolators (MySpace), at Mr. T's Bowl (MySpace) in Highland Park. El Olio Wolof and Rademacher also performed on Sunday at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake as part of Classical Geek Theatre's show.
