PETA to Sue SeaWorld for Violating Constitutional Rights of Orca Whales
PETA knows no line, and the animal rights organization is now filing suit against SeaWorld, alleging that the park chain is violating the constitutional rights of orca whales. PETA, three marine-mammal experts and two former orca trainers will file a lawsuit tomorrow in Los Angeles asking a federal court to declare that five wild-caught orcas - who are forced to perform at SeaWorld - are being held as slaves in violation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
SeaWorld Bags Use Of Plastic Bags This Summer
In an effort to reduce ocean pollution, SeaWorld in San Diego will stop giving out plastic bags at its theme-park gift stores on June 18. Park reps said "the move could save more than 1 million plastic bags from being used. They will offer customers paper and reusable sacks," reports the San Diego Union Tribune.

Bruce Alrighty? Sea Turtle Badly Wounded By Shotgun Fire
SeaWorld veterinarians at are treating a critically injured green sea turtle that was found in San Diego Bay wounded in the neck by shotgun fire, reports KTLA. Bruce, a 250-pound adult male turtle, is a "threatened species" and was near death when he was located in the San Diego Bay marshlands where he had been monitored for several years by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, notes LA Now.
Baby Whale In Trouble Near San Clemente Pier
A 15-foot, baby sperm whale that washed ashore in San Diego on Dec. 13 and was sent back to sea with the help of SeaWorld, has been spotted again near the San Clemente Pier laying atop a kelp bed. The baby, separated from its mother, may be dying of starvation needing milk to survive. Experts say a rescue attempt could be difficult because of the weather. No boats or arrangements have yet been made. Anyone who spots the whale can contact the Pacific Marine Mammal Center at (949) 494-3050.
