Last night LAist attended the 10th Anniversary Party for The Boondock Saints. Fans from all over the country came to Busby’s East in Hollywood to meet “brothers” Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus and writer/director Troy Duffy. The Saints have some wicked loyal fans. I saw at least two women in Boondock-inspired full-body paint, one of whom traveled all the way from Baltimore to attend the event. One fan with autographs all over her chest and arms told us she’s having them traced by a friend and redone as tattoos on her ankles.

LAist Interview: Troy Duffy, The Boondock Saints 2
Most fans of The Boondock Saints have heard some pretty nasty stuff about its Writer/Director Troy Duffy. I’ve been in this conversation a million times and it starts off by a random Boondock Saints reference, “Thanks for coming out,” something like that. Then there’s shared enthusiasm for the film among those who’ve seen it, “I love that movie!” and bewilderment toward those who haven’t, “You’ve never seen The Boondock Saints”
Box Office Review: That Was It?
Despite being hyped by its evil corporate owner AEG, Michael Jackson's This Is It only earned a decent-but-hardly-great $21.3M at the box office this weekend. It was enough to win the weekend, though Paranormal Activity made a strong charge at second place ($16.5M | $84.7M). After that it was all hold-overs. The unusually robust Law Abiding Citizen continued to do well ($7.3M | $51.3M) as did the moderately funny Couples Retreat ($6M | $86.6M). The vile and stupid Saw VI rounded out the top 5 with $5.5M ($22.8M).
Weekend Movie Guide: Let the Revisionism Commence!
I know that plenty of people are looking forward to seeing Michael Jackson's ghoulish This Is It. I am not one of those people. Have fun, weirdos! Has Jared Hess lost his mojo? Nacho Libre was a step down from Napoleon Dynamite and Gentlemen Broncos looks like another step down the ladder. I was never really a fan of the original Boondock Saints, so Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is pretty low on my radar. Why reward a jerk-off like Troy Duffy with my hard-earned treasure? The best film of the week may just be The House of the Devil. Cue "unfortunately, no one will see it" meme. If you're looking for something good other than horror, give Skin your time and money. It stars the great Sam Neill. That should be reason enough to see it.
Movie Review: The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day
In my experience there are two kinds of people in this world: those who LOVE The Boondock Saints and those who have never heard of it. I fall squarely into the Love It category. In the neighborhood where I grew up and went to Catholic Church and high school, everyone and their mother loves it, too. My friend Joanne’s mom is one of the most conservative women you’ll meet, so we were all shocked and amused when she said that it was “Pretty fucking great,” articulating her opinion in the vernacular of The Saints.
