Tonight In Rock: School Of Seven Bells, Baths, The Western States Motel, Haroula Rose

It's Tuesday. Do you know where your rock is? You may find it at the Conga Room for School of Seven Bells or perhaps your rock is waiting for you for FREE @ Amoeba Music. No? It's at the Troubadour for Ceci Bastida and Oh Land? Oh really? I heard The Satellite was where the rock was with Marvelous Toy, Airlines and The Pass. 87 Stick Up Kids would beg to differ from their hold at the Echoplex, and I bet Sara Lov would have a word to say about that from the Hotel Cafe. Hotel too fancy? Try a motel. A Western States Motel at LaBrie's. Says the Silverlake lounge, it's all Smoke and Feathers. more ›

And, lastly, WPA, or rather Works Progress Administration—a Santa Barbara-bred supergroup formed from a prominent community of musicians who frequent the Largo, including Sean and Sara Watkins, as well as Glen Phillips—will be performing for their first time at the Largo at the Coronet. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch the opening night of local indie pop outfit Light FM's month-long residency. School of Seven Bells at the Troubadour: Just This Side of Bliss

School of Seven Bells at the Troubadour: Just This Side of Bliss

Brooklyn’s School of Seven Bells returned to L.A. last night with their tribaldelic dream-pop. If you haven’t been initiated into this cultish trio, School of Seven Bells is guitarist Ben Curtis (formerly of Secret Machines) and identical twin vocalists Claudia and Alejandra Dehaza (formerly of artsy vocal group On! Air! Library!). The sisters intertwine harmonies in styles tough to pigeonhole, except to say they are exactingly crafted (with hints of everything from The Roches to the Bulgarian Women’s Choir). Curtis jabs heavily processed chords and splashes bright colors. And everything rests on electronic beats that feel one step ahead of trends. more ›

And, lastly, MA-based singer-songwriter Jonathan Richman will be performing at the El Rey Theatre. But we recommend heading over to the Henry Fonda Music Box to catch French electro-pop sensation Sébastien Tellier. more ›

And, lastly, English singer-songwriter Holly Golightly is slated to share the stage at Spaceland with Frank Fairfield. But we recommend heading over to the Henry Fonda Music Box to see French electronic group M83.
