Extra, Extra: The Wildfire Timeline

Extra, Extra: The Wildfire Timeline

Orlando Bloom will not be prosecuted after an October 12th incident in which he injured his two passengers in a car crash involving parked cars. He said he was avoiding a photographer who suddenly changed lanes. Seeing these paparazzi in action, we suspect it was them who caused the crash, most likely on purpose for some higher dollar photo sales. Starting from last week today, the San Jose Mercury News has a great timeline... more ›

Griffith Park Fire near Observatory Appears to be Contained

Griffith Park Fire near Observatory Appears to be Contained

Around 4pm today a one-acre fire broke out within sight of the Griffith Park Observatory. ABC has been running indepth coverage, although there is very little news online and no photos available at this time. Hikers have been evacuated. If anyone knows anyone who may be hiking in the park, they are being asked to contact them on cell phones. Visitors to the Observatory were evacuated from the building and were being kept in the parking lot at the time that ABC switched back to its normal programming around 5:15 pm. It appears the observatory area has been evacuated now at 6 pm and the fire is almost contained. Two to five acres between the Observatory and the Hollywood sign have burned. I can smell the smoke as I type this post. more ›

Even in death, Sopranos fans are trying to prove that their favorite character is dead. On Sunday the critically-acclaimed mob drama The Sopranos wrapped up their series with a controversial ending that has left fans either applauding or jeering, but it seems like the fans who loved the show the most are the ones who are looking for clues to prove that the main character, Tony Soprano, was whacked. LAst Night's Action: Saenz Wins for Seanez

Dodgers 4, Blue Jays 3, 10 - It was a strange interleague game against Toronto. Brad Penny allowed one run in 7 and 2/3 innings, but got no decision. Takashi Saito blew the save, but didn't lose the game. Rudy Saenez only faced one batter, but it was enough for the win. Olmedo Saenz finally won it with a two-run blast in the bottom of the tenth. Angels 10, Cardinals 6 - The Halos hung... more ›

Downtown Day-Trippin' and Wet-Cams

Downtown Day-Trippin' and Wet-Cams

The San Jose Mercury News day-trips down to downtown and finds a safe, bustling community much different from when the reporter lived here ten years ago. It reminds us that we really want to check out Checkers Hotel bar one of these days and that maybe we should visit downtown one week day and just walk and spend the entire day into night. LAist has done Olvera Street but we should take it all in at once, right? more ›

Angeleno Detained In Egypt

Angeleno Detained In Egypt

A press release from the Council on American-Islamic Relations thanks Democrats Jane Harman and Dianne Feinstein for assisting to secure Mahboob's release, but the U.S. government has made no statements about this subject thus far. CAIR is an Islamic civil liberties organization. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Mahboob says he was beaten and that he recieved no explanation for why he was arrested or jailed. LAist wonders whether we'll see either Egypt or our own government shed some light on the causes for this incident. more ›

We're #1! *HACK*

We're #1! *HACK*

The AP report says that "paved road dust" was among the biggest sources of pollution in this latest round of EPA tests. Yep, that sounds like us. Los Angeles County has been given 3 years to submit plans to meet particulate standards by 2010. Since LAist doubts that most of the city will decide to engage in Larry David-style conspicuous Hybrid consumption, we hope that this awesome new development towards fuel cell vehicles (Honda delivers 2 early models of its emissions-free FCX to air quality management district HQ) helps us get there. more ›
